OT Foxtail for hay???

Ok .To make a long story short... Have a problem field.. A wet spring and I didnt get a low laying field of beans planted untill July 1st.Then no rain,forever. There is about a 20% stand of beans and 80% stand of foxtail. Since Foxtail is a grass weed,could I cut and bale it for feed????? My hay crop here in Indiana was about 50% of past years because of the lack of rain,so Ill be short this winter. Ive done this before with beans with a little Foxtail in it ,but not this much.Will it be ok to feed to beef calves, goats , and Lahmas?????
 
That mix would be good for beef and goats. I have fed cows on it, many a dry summer! Don't know a damn thing about llamas, 'cept they spit, and this mix really ain't lethal llama spit!
 
Foxtail makes decent hay, and a few beans to chew on will give the critters a little variety.

Goats and llamas can eat anything. Calves almost anything. Go for it.
 
I have a gal that comes around to buy grass hay from me every so often.Picks my hay apart somethin" terrible(but always buys it).Says foxtail seeds get stuck between the horse"s teeth.

True or not,I don"t know.We fed grass/alfalfa mix that had foxtail to our dairy cattle back in the day and didn"t have to floss their teeth:)
 
RFV is worse thsn alfalfa, better than sawdust.

We baled a bunch back in the early 90's, were shoert on straw in a wet year. Cattle wouldn't lay on it, ate it up before the rest of the hay. Oh well, we were short on hay too that year, so worked out well.

Should be a good roughage hay for the cattle, don't know the other species.

As long as the cows lay down after they get done eating they are happy. If they are still standing at the gate bawling you better feed them some more.
 
You probably fed what you had.
If you are buying or selling feed it's imperative you know what is in the bale.
