tractor prices (value???) fluctuation........

Without talking brands because what you folks have doesn't match with what's here, do you notice prices for the same tractors (make/models)going up or down while vehicle conditions or other conditions (jobs, salaries, etc) stays the same???

I was just playing on a couple sites with used tractors and see some drastic increases and a few decreases that make no real sense.

Couple examples.. Some 40-70 HP IHC asking prices have dropped a K or so and some Belarus' that were thrown at you just a ew months ago have doubled in asking prices.....
No real moral to the story, just wondering if anyone sees it anywhere else. Doesn't always mean that the asking price will be paid, butjust rying to figure the mentality...

Done now...

I think the older one are droping in price a lot back here in the states from what they were 10 years ago. I could of picked up a 60sh oilallover
diesel for a $1000.00 a week ago, tires were bald, kinda ruff looking but ran good, new starter/ battiers, seat.

If it is a common tractor then the value is creeping down. The Big money for old tractors days are over. It has to be something special to still bring the big money.

The market for cheap usable diesels is going up a little because many are wanting away from the hassles that the new gas formulas are causing. People are also wising up about wanting live/independent PTO and power steering. The old Fords that don't have either, are half the price they where just a few years ago here in North East Iowa.

The market is changing. Many of the younger generations are not into tractors at all. They never grew up around them. The shrinking of the farm population is showing up in the demographics of tractor buyers. This generation is much more likely to buy a new off brand than an older name brand tractor. Just think of all of the Asian imports that are showing up now in the USA.

I think JD is on the right track but prices will vary due to location too. Where I'm at some of the old Fords are still going for good money. Thats because by and large we have a lot of city people who own land in the area. Most of it between 2 and 40 acres. So they decide that they want a tractor for mowing and think the old tractors are cool. SO put an old Ford out by the highway here and a 2 grand price tag on it and it's gone. Adn that for one far from perfect. Restore one and try to get 3k out of it and you are going to be holding onto it. From using the computer to look I can find those Fords in other areas for 1 K.

Tractor prices are kinda funny right now. Part due to grain prices. Lot of guys have gotten newer or new equipment and for 50 HP and bigger they have flooded the used market. Was looking at prices last night. I can buy a Stieger Couger II with all new rubber, very clean tractor with 2k on a reman for 13k. I can find 1586 IH tractors for as little as 9500. An early 60's utility type runs in the 5k range! I can find early 60's 70-90 HP diesels for the same money in row crop. Go out to the big grain country and look. Daughters FIL got a 1206 IH, open station, 5500 original hours, duals that had never been outside over night, good rubber about 80% with hub duals for 2800. That' a chore tractor out there!

I can tell you that if you put a lot of money into a old tractor, you'll never get it back.

True and if ya buy a new one the bank may own it too!.

I myself would dump money into a tractor I was going to use to a point. At least I would know how good it is. Just getting rid of it and buying another used tractor can turn into a problem on it's own. But I'm a user not a shower. Don't take that the wrong way....nothing wrong with being a shower.....just ain't me.
