Can I put a deep cycle marine battery in my 56 John Deere 50? For some reason, a 750 CCA truck battery is like $30 more than a 800 CCA deep cycle marine battery...................

Well yes no and it will not last long. Yes it can be done but a deep cycle battery is made to be used till dead then charged then used again till dead. So yes it can be done but it will not last near as long with a system that keeps it charge up to full all the time

Ok, thats what I was looking for...THANKS!!! Guess I'll pay the extra money and get the truck battery then!

actually i wouldn't,,,there was previous threads about the same type of batt....the only problem is that a r-v type batt is a slow drain batt,,,it wouldn't give you the punch for the start you need/want,,yes you can in a pinch, but get a batt that will have high cca....now i have found batt on c-list for my p/u, r-v, car, and even a 6-volt for my tractor...

A 50 isnt near as hard to crank as say a 60 or 70 so a 750 CCA ought to do the trick unless it ansolutely must start in extreme cold temps where Id go with an 850 up to a 1000.

In a tractor with a generator I would NOT recommend a deep cycle marine/rv battery although sure they will still "work". Id go with a truck/tractor regular starting battery designed for a heavy discharge for initial cranking versus the deep cycle intended more for a longer slower deeper discharge.

I have used both for years, can't tell the difference. The issue is the CA (cranking amps.) It will be stamped on the battery. Get the highest for the price.

I bought a 1000 amp for my 1715 last winter for less than $100 I belive it was $99.95 along with a Block Heater from NAPA $27.95 Block heater you just knock out a freeze plug and install. Was two of the best investments I have made in a long time. Just plug in about two hours before starting.

Hello bigdraf,
The truck battery is rated at 0 degrees F and is rated Cold Cranking Amps(CCA)
A marine battery is rated Cranking Amps (CA)
at 32 degrees F.
If both batteries Marine and Truck have the same ratings in amps, the CCA truck battery will be the battery with more capacity, that is why it will cost more.
Guido.
