deer and garden

For several years I have had one strand of electric fence 4 or 5 feet high around the garden for deer and 2 strands a few inches from the ground to keep coons out of the corn. The deer got in the garden a few days ago and I tried the peanut butter on aluminum foil wrapped on the fence wire trick. Since then we have had about 2 3/4 inches of rain, which was badly needed, and when I checked today I didn't see any tracks, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I don't want to have to string more wire.

The coons stayed out of the corn this season and the corn is all gone now anyway.

They keep wildlife away from roadways in thick areas around here by hanging CD's along the rightofway. Could be the reflection of headlights that does it (???) . Some folks that have fruit and cherry tres that they care about hangs CD's in them and keeps the birds away. May be worth a try.

Last year a friend told us of a tactic that seems to be working so far, run 2 strands of 50 lb. test fishing line around the garden, one knee high and top strand waist high. the deer can't see it, therfore don't know how high to jump it, but they know it is there because their nose feels it, but they can't see it and they are staying out of our garden, at least last year this year anyway.
