2004 Ranger no start followup

Pulled the bed and the top of the fuel pump had several cracks on it and the Evap cannister connection was broken off. With the recent rains there appears to be some water in the system. I am wondering if the 60 psi at the fuel rail was part water, which would mean that the injectors wouldn"t spray since water won"t compress as gasoline would. Also I found out that there is a sensor in the Cannister plumbing that senses fuel tank pressure. The open wound, broken piece would shut that down....probably. Sooooo, a new fuel pump assembly is in order and then it had better fire up... I hope! Thanks again for all the help before!!! I'll post back when it runs.

With respect, Neither Gasoline or water compress (in what we call real terms) They have different viscosity, but fluids in general do not compress.
Those components sure sound like a probable cause to me, and would need to be replaced anyway. Jim

I think you're being overly optimistic... but as you say... the pump needed changing anyway.
Change the filter while you're at it. Any water that was in the tank should ahve been caught at the inline filter along the left frame rail... but change it anyway. Then you can probably get closer to the real problem.

60#, IIRC, is just about right for a Ranger... I agree tho... you could open the schrader valve and see if there's gas or water there.... or more importantly... flow. It is possible to have static pressure with the key turned 'on' and then when the engine is cranked and the injectors pulse... the fuel is used up/pressure drops because there is not enough flow there to maintain the pressure... either because of a blocked filter or bad pump... and more likely because of a blocked filter.

In my experience a Ranger with a bad fuel pump can easily be made to run on a slug of gas down the intake. If it won't run on that or some heroin... it's got fire or compression problems.
