Loader Joystick won't stay in Float Possition (detent)

I don't think you would want your loader's joystick to detent into any position. It is a safety issue. You want to be in control of your loader at all times, which means hands on.

Many loader valves have a float on the "lift" circuit. This is used for grading and leveling where you want the bucket to follow the contour of the land.

As for it being adjustable I guess that would depend entirely on the valve in question. Do you have a manufacture and model of the valve your using? Or maybe just a picture?

A lot of ind loader valves have a float position built in to the boom control spool. More than likely the the detent ball is stuck from non lubrication that is intended to hold spool in float.

Many factory frt end loaders valves have a detent position built into the valve. Some tractors also have this feature on the remote control valves also.

(quoted from post at 16:17:21 09/21/11) Is there something to adjust the detent tension? Thanks for any advise! DW

There should be a separate body near the end of the spool that holds the detent ball and spring. Some have a set screw that applies pressure to the spring and ball.

See if you can locate a Allen key set screw that you can tighten. If so first you may want to back it out and push a little grease into the housing, as others have mentioned.

I managed to repair mine this way, if it is really old you may worn an oblong hole in the body, such that the ball slides along the spool rather than into or out of the spool.

Andy fload detent is prety well the standard of the industry on loaders sold in the last years. Allows for back draging or floating of the bucket. Easy fix find the spool that controls the loader and remove the small cap at the end or first see if there is an opening and take the straw can of w d 40 give it a shot if not remove and clean the spring and balls.

Thanks for the replies. Looks like a Prince Valve. I looked at the exploded parts diagram and found the housing that holds detent portion. Think I'll get some lube in there. I was thinking it would be in the hyd. fluid, but guess it isn't. Thanks, DW
