ot-chevy truck

I have a 1989 chevy one ton 2wd with a 454 engine. Coming home last night with a cord of wood on the truck died. I coasted into a parking lot and got out. There was a small amount of flame, and alot of black smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. I believe this has a thrttle body fuel injection system, and I know it had a fuel pump inthe gas tank. I called a tow truck and got it home, It started this morning and ran on about four cylinder. I'm thinking what ever turns that fuel pump on and of isn't working and it super flooded my engine. Is there a pressur guage or sensor that tells the fuel pump to shut off?
By the way, I also use the truck to haul my flat bed and tractor.
Thanks to all, Tim

No.

'Puter turns the pump on for a few seconds when ignition is switched "on" to prime system. Once engine is being cranked or running, fuel pump stays "ON".

Fuel pressure is controlled by a fuel pressure regulator, in the case of your TBI, it is inside the TBI unit. If the diaphragm springs a leak, it spray right into the TBI unit/intake manifold/engine, which MAY be the problem you are experiencing.

Have someone turn the key on(don"t crank)as you look into both bores of the throttle body to see if gas is running down.As Bob said, the diaphragm MAY have sprung a leak.If so,there are rebuild kits available at most part stores.

Tim on my 1988 it was the fuel pump relay on the firewall. I had a pal replace it, dont know where it is located, just on the firewall.

If it is flooding out dont forget to drain the old oil out. Had a Pontiac with a leaky carb in the shop, blew the oil pan apart.

OT/ At a Caddilac dealer (no paint shop) they had a trainee get 2 gallons of antifreeze from parts to refill an Eldorado. Trainee went to mechanic saying antifreeze didnt look right - he was told to quit stalling and get it done.
Car went 12 miles and BOOM! Both cylinder heads came off of the engine and struck the hood.
It was paint thinner someone had put in 2 jugs and they got returned & put in stock.

Then some one played a trick on April fools day and switched an oil filter for a can of chicken soup in the box. They asked him the next day how hhe liked his soup.. he said what soup?

In November a gas station called our manager and said he had the strangest thing happen. He got a P51 oil filter off the shelf - out came a can Campells chicken noodle soup - I overeard this and told the manager to credit his account and tell him to enjoy his lunch.
