Another reminder that work is slow

I've been wearing the exact same style/model work boot for at least 12 years. I just call Chet's shoes, he looks me up on his computer and orders another pair of the same. A week later they're on my feet. Today I went to pick up my new ones and while there I asked him how long I'd had the old ones. Since June of 09. I asked him how long before that. He looked over the computer screen and said I'd averaged about a year and a half on all the ones before that.
So a year and a half versus 2 years and 3 months.
I would gladly spend more on shoes if the work would pick up.

I use to where that same exact style but in the 8 inch boot.

I have since switched to Caterpillar boots, since I cannot find a Redwing that has a true lug sole with no insulation. The Cats are about half the price, so if they only last half as long, I guess I"ll be happy.

Finding size 15"s is not easy anyway.

Looks like you wear your work shoes well. I worked as a House Carpenter for 20 years and wore Red Wings and some others I got at Farm and Fleet and different shoe stores but the last 12 years of my career I worked as a Carpenter for Raytheon and others in several different Nuclear Power Plants. My work shoe of choice was Wolverine Dura Shock Steel Toe Wellington boots. In 12 years I wore out 4 pair. Most of my shift buddys wore Wolverine or Red Wing so I fit right in. Climbing around in the Power House environment building Steel Scaffold for the other crafts to use in their process of rebuild and refuel a person needs protection for your lower extrementies and Wolverine and Red wing boots do that real well. The last 3 years I served as Shift Craft Safety Rep and I walked a lot of miles and the Dura Shocks stood up well to that abuse.

Iwear wolverine dura shock, work shoes, they feel comfortable from brand new till old they are around 100 bucks a pair, but worth it for the comfort

tried quite a few different ones while working in the oilfield---could not beat the redwings for grip or comfort---with all the moisture and caustic soda and oil based mud they would only last 3-6 months.

Been wearing Red Wing logger boots for 25 years. I had one pair that started squeaking after 2 years. They replaced them, no cost, no questions. Can't stand behind your product better than that.

My last pair, I switched to Justins from Wolverines. These Justins are gonna last me til retirement unless work picks up. I agree with you, I'd gladly buy boots more often if it meant I was working more.

I wear the Red Wings, too and one old pair I still use are over 30 years old..been re-soled and Heeled a couple of times, but the Uppers are as nice as new ones...
I always heat them good and Melt in all the "Snow-Seal" that the leather can absorb..cool them off, wipe them and buff to a shine..
THE BEST treatment you can give to any fine leather..Harness OR shoe leather..
I re-treat about every 12 months..maybe not that often..
Wore one pair on the Big Truck (45 States) for several years and they never cracked or got stiff from the repeated wet and Dry of driving in Winter, etc..
I can tell you "larry Mayhans" didn't last very long..but I didn't know about Snow-Seal at that time..
FWIW..!
Ron..

What is the style/model of those? I am wearing mine just like those since I got them in 1994 & need new ones. Give me an E-mail please. Thanks.

Some are made in China but many are still made here in the USA. I make sure and get the US made ones. The US made ones are a lot higher but I get much better life out of them.

Sadly, the worst most uncomfortable shoe I had was a Redwing boot type shoe in the late 80's. I believe they were over 100$ then.

My feet do not like big dollar shoes. I'd like to wear Red Wings, made only 100 or so miles from me, but feet don't like them. Finally found some Worx shoes that work from me, they are a Red Wing label so kinda supporting the home team, but I'll guess they are probably the off-shore line....

Most comfortable shoe for me over the years has been some K-Mart Route 66 stuff for $29, but they change their styles too much to keep a good thing going.

looks like a 202 boot to me.i wear a 11E2, great boots that last. get about 2 years out of mine. do a lot of roofing, shingles and old fashioned standing seam.

(quoted from post at 20:48:16 09/16/11) Please post the exact Red Wing model or stle number for that shoe. Thanks.
Tom

UD's are 202 6-inch. I wore the 8-inch version, #402, for years until the last trip to the store. They were out of the 402's so I got 953's. They're just as comfortable.

'Country of origin' is given with each product description.

That's it mooger. They are style 202.
I sometimes think about trying another brand of work boot but I always go back to these 202s.
You find something that works why change?
