My first rebuild and installing new valves, valve springs, guides and keepers. My question is...my rebuild kit has two sets of keepers. One pkg. is 8- narrow keepers and another pkg. is 8- wider keepers. Both pkgs. are labeled "Valve Keys".
I notice the top 'notch' of the exhaust valve has a wider groove and the intake valve has a more narrow groove. Therefore, one would reason the wider 'keeper' would be used for the exhaust
valve.
What would br the correct answer?

Thanks...

The wider keepers are used in the narrow groove of the intake valves and the narrow keepers are used in the wider groves on the exhaust valves with the rotator caps. The spring retainers are also different from exhaust and intake.
