As of last night, 34,000+ acres burned, 1400 homes burned, only 30% contained.

Lets keep these people in our prayers.

Most of the fires are out in Leon County. Last I heard we lost two churches,35 homes and barns and equipment. Plus a few planes.

Nancy , All,, Forestry Service got in a Huge Honkin DC707 air tanker Wed, But as of this AM They didn't have a pilot to fly it in fire fighting application, + it wasn't totally rigged out to fight fire yet! maybe later today.
The fire has been at 30% containment for the last 1.5 days!!! There may be some folks who haven,t lost homes.
Yesterday, a homeowner sneaked in to see his home, was caught by officials moving a high voltage electric line with his bare hands, Thank the lord that line was OFF! Not the way to see if it is Off!!!

pretty wild for sure! when they start talking about square miles instead of acres you know its a big one!couple of weeks ago i saw them fighting a fire here with helicopters and those bucket things, never had saw it before here.folks were stopping on the hiway to watch.it always amazes me that those firefighters can even hope to stop a fire that large with the wind and things as dry as it is.one firefighter they interveiwed here said that as dry as it is a fire will burn the grass plumb down underground to the roots.I didnt have time to read it yet, but there was a article in the paper this morning saying as how they were looking for places to take in animals from there.ive got 500 acres out in western okla between elk city and sayre, and i think you could cut and bale the whole place off and not make three bales of hay.pulled the cattle off that place for the first time since 1935 last fall, and i dont think a blade of anything has grown back since.predicting a small chance of rain starting middle of next week here.generally have a few good rains this time of year but nothing so far except one little shower that settled the dust for a couple of hours.its so dry i'm considering building watering stations for the wildlife.put feeders out last week around the last of the ponds, have six ponds on this place and all are dry but one,and it wont go much longer without some rain.

The fellow I mentioned in a previous post said that a church and a few homes had burned in Jewett near his folks ranch. That's probably one of the churches you are referring to.

It had to be one of them. The Concord church was one and another one across the highway. Just north of the intersection of Hwy 39 and Hwy 7.

Jack is it Elk City that has the large antique musem ? Spent a half day somewhere right in there wondering thru a big old barn thing..
Middle Tennessee and we have had rain but have had the hottest year on record for temps however overall still pretty good crops. Plan on heading back that way soon as we get the corn & beans in may be by the last week in Oct. Always make about a 12 day out west trip every fall.
