Can someone tell me where the hydraulic pump is on this tractor? I have a problem of the entire hydraulic system shutting down after I use the tractor for a while.

Right side on rear housing on plate just behind tranny.Should have a filter on the plate that the pump is mounted to on the inside.Pump is probaly worn and losing prime.Get a guage with at least 2500psi.Plumb a quick connector and plug into remote on rear of tractor. With the hydraulic system at "OPERATING TEMPERATURE" engage the remote. The gage should have at least a 2000 lb. reading. If not replace the hydraulic pump.

Thanks for the information. Some else mentioned the dump valve. also any idea on a shop manuel. I see them on line but I don't know if they are any good.

Old ford mechainc -- thanks for your help.. Yes I loose all power. No gear, no lift, no pto nothing. I can move an inch or so in gear then nothing. This is in low/high any gear.

Ok,Lets see if i can explain in terms that can be understood. The top shaft in the transmisson is hollow so that another shaft can be inserted through it.The shaft that runs inside the hollow shaft runs directly off the flywheel of the engine. It is splined into a drive hub that is bolted on in the center of the flywheel. The splines have worn out of this hub. When you say the tractor will try to move a little it means the shaft is trying to turn but can't because the splines are worn out of the hub.You must seperate the tractor between the engine and the transmisson. Then remove the clutch and pressure plate assembly. Now you will see the hub with the splined hole in the center. It is retained with six bolts.also look at the splines on the shaft. If you are lucky the shaft can be reused. If its worn badly replace it also. You have to remove the tranny from the rearend housing and remove the rear plate on the tranny to change the shaft.I've seen several 8600's do this over the years. Some did it at the tractor pulls. This problem was a poor design because of the fine splines on the shaft and hub.I assume you tractor has several hours of use on it.Most of them had this problem after hard use for several hundreds or thousands of hours. This is an easy fix if only the hub is replaced. However if the shaft needs replacing and its a cab tractor its a lot harder job.The hub should be reasonbly priced but,the shaft will be high. You might find a good shaft at a salvage yard. The shaft and hub drive the pump.Good Luck.

Thanks again-- I should have explained the full problem well. Here it is. I run the tractor everything is working well. Hydraulics, gear, pto. I turn off the motor. I go back and nothing (not all the time) usually after 1/2 days work . Let the tractor cool down for an hour(maybe the next day) all is working fine again. Is this still the same problem. Sorry to keep asking the same question. Hopefully I have given you all the righ information. Again this is an 8600 Ford form the 70"s with about a 100 hp and no cab Just and fyi. .

Sorry,Guess i made more out the post than i should. No the problem you are descibing is not what i thought.I thought you meant the problem was there all the time not sometimes.Go ahead and perform the pressure check i described.Just be sure that the hydraulic fluid is at operating temp when you do the check.Good ideal to take a cold reading and a hot reading.Something is wrong with the oil supply system either pump, filters, pickup or oil.I would go ahead and change the filters if they are old and check the oil level. Also what weight oil are you using in the hydraulic system? There are also checks for pto and dual power described in the manual.I sent you a P.M. with a phone# if you need it.
