I remember the Camel and the Colt ads. The others were a bit before I learned to read I think. Interesting to see some of those old ads again. Thanks for the post.

The 'Soda Pop Board of America' advertisement is fake. Could be out of National Lampoon magazine. I have a Volkswagen ad from the 70's showing a Beetle floating in water with the caption "If Teddy'd had one of these, he wouldn't have gotten in hot water".

That is funny.

And all this time I could have health benefits from beer? I guess being a drunk early has its benefits. Mail order guns, before 1968 it was a reality.

Not necessarily fakes, coke makes babies burp, heck half of Europe still drinks beer for breakfast, and gives a small glass to little kids without batting an eye.. cocain was 'thee' tooth ache treatment till you got to a dentist.. till 1912?13? I think in some parts of South America, they eat that for breakfast too..... My father was a pharmisist, I drank soda pop to burp, beer to go to sleep, codine or wine when really sick, but the snow? Nope. He never splurged any of that on me....my teeth were good. And I'm talking 1960's.

I had delight with old ads yesterday too, only from old newspaper microfilm for my hometown papers.

The year, 1912.

Or the one for my grandfather's blacksmith shop. Unlike many old era blacksmiths he was progressive. Owned a 1910 Auburn, a Little Bull tractor by 1916, etc.

I KNOW I AM GOING TO GET FLAMED FOR THIS!
Thoes adds were back when women were supposed to be seen and not heard. Now things have changed and women are heard. It was nice in the good old days.
Let the flaming begin. Bob

In 1963, right after I got out of the Marine Corps, I ordered a shotgun by mail out of the Sears Roebuck catalog.

No formalities, the transaction was no different than ordering, say, a shirt.

An old timer neighbor of mine, he is likey dead by now or 90 years old. He told me that when women started working, you know womans rights and all that, Inflation started going up cause more money in circulation and demand for good and services went up too. He swore that this is why inflation was way up in the 1970s. He did admit to me that the Arab oil crises of the mid 70s contributed to it too. I like woman to think for themselves, my wife is too smart to stay home and bake cookies.

I wish you could still buy long guns out of a catalog, no back ground check, no 4473 sheet, nothing. Lay down the money and get the gun of your choice. If you really think about it the 4473 sheet is total BS. If you are going to buy a firearm and then be able to legally sell it say 6 months later then what does it matter if there is a firearm transfer sheet. Oh wait...it makes the liberals feel better so I guess it does something.

Hey, cocaine in Albany N.Y. LOL.... well that was about the only good use of that substance, before people found a way to abuse it otherwise !

I have a Life magazine collection from my grandad's estate, from the start to the end in the late 60's or the break in publication. Even in the 30's, those ads are a walk in time, you don't realize how things were until you open the pages of one of these, all kinds of ads, the articles, lots of farming etc. What was shocking was the way (I'll try to keep it generic)other races were referred to as, that really sends a message as to how things were, and of course the portrayal of women, maybe more so in the ads for things, open one up, instant history lesson !

I agree Tony. If you find some of the old Coke Cola adds. It was supposed to cure everything from cancer to dandruff.

I see nothing wrong with giving yourself a Colt pistol or revolver for Christmas. I'm a Smith man myself, but Colt made a good gun too.
