I feel for you, it has been 10 years since our last dog, we just got another puppy. They really become part of your family. The other pets will grieve them also.

Nothing hurts worse than the loss of a constant companion. The hurt will fade but the happy memories will last forever.

The Rainbow Bridge

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Sorry to hear of the sad news. In my life, there are no animals more honest than horses and dogs.

Please accept my condolences man, I know how you feel.
We went for several years without a dog after the family pet that the kids grew up with died. About four years ago my youngest daughter nursed two pups back to life after their mother rejected them. The female lived a little over a year and developed problems and had to be put to sleep. My daughter has her ashes in a small urn. The male, "Bubba" is our constant companion. Since my wife passed away a year and a half ago, I don't know what I would do sometimes if Bubba were not here for company while the daughter is at work.
I like the commercial that says something to the extent that "they are called pets, but we know that they are family"!

Sorry for your loss, i know it hurts.

Sorry for your loss. Having him for 16 years I am sure he came to be family to you, and this is like loosing a child. We have had our wonderful dog, Lilly for about 4 years now. She just showed up on our doorstep as a stray, and stayed. Best thing that has happened to my wife and I yet. We dont have any kids, and uncertain if we will be able to, so Lilly fills a void for us and we treasure everyday with her. God Bless.

Got what could be his sister here who's getting pretty gray. She's still going strong but at 14 you know her best years are behind her. Photo is from about 9 years ago.

As my Grandad used to say...

"Every time a dog get's GOOD, they get OLD"..

I know how you feel..sure wish they could live 3 times as long..!!
Be glad you had this one and that you gave it the LIFE it deserved..!!!
