antique age

I always considered '59 and older were'antique',and the '60s tractors were
"classics".Recently I was told that '39 and older were antique;'40 to'59 were "classic"; and '60 to'85 were "heritage era"

(quoted from post at 20:14:51 08/31/11) What makes it an antique tractor by age?

Older than anything you have but whatever year the guy has that is running your stuff down or trying to impress you..... Kinda like playing cards and making the rules as you go along.... For some reason , Classic=20 years and 30 yrs=antique is in my mind???

There was a post on this site last spring about a red power man who wanted his club to set an age limit for tractors. That's a tough one. I don't think it's documented any where and if it is it's probably still only opinion. I think if it's on steel or has a mag, it's antique. But then I'm still using alot of things that my neighbors say are antique.

Beats me.

I've always considered my 1962 Allis D19 to be just an old tractor I use when I need to, although I've been seeing tractors newer than that at antique tractor shows lately.

This is one of those things thats a different meaning to everyone...

To me antique means something thats outlived its usefulness and only kept around for sentimental value or museum pieces. IMO most tractors don't qualify... especially mine. They're old, perhaps even classics, but they're just as willing to work all day today as they were when new.

Aw, comon, you, calling 1959 an antique!
I was born in the EARLY 40"s, that"s calling me an antique! I prefer calling pre World War II,an
antique tractor.
What about you "OLD"? Enter this survey!!!

For tractor pulls the antique class is 39 and older with 40 to 55 considered classic with some pulls taking it from 55 up to 59 or 60. That upper limit may vary depending on how many tractors they get and the time frame they have to work in. The pull I will be working at has the 39 down antique and 40-55 for classic. Our time frame starts at noon and we have to be done by 6, preferably by 5:30 and we are always very close on time. And a tractor may pull only one time per year.

This is something that is often set by different clubs and organizations. It is usually not a year but how many years going back. In the AMCA it is only 25 [or maybe 30 yrs.] That means any bike older than 1986 will be shown and judged. next year it would be 1987. [These years seem awful new to me and there was discussion on making it longer back in time]. As far as tractors it is up to the club or show you attend. Some car show don't allow after 1964. Some car shows don't allow fiberglass cars. It all depends who's running the show.

I have always understood the traditional definition to be: Classic at 25, Vintage at 50, Antique at 100.
