My 08 Ford Edge started making some bad sounds in the rear tire area. It still has a couple weeks on the warrenty, so I thought I should have it looked at. Anyone know if this is a problem with these cars, or did I just get one with a bad bearing? Stan

"Stuff happens". When you take it in, ask if there may be a recall on it. Although they are supposed to notify every customer, sometimes they get overlooked. Not trying to be funny, but sometimes a bearing just don't hold up as well as the rest.

Is it 2 wheel or all wheel drive?
In either case it sounds like the tires are worn making the noise. Mine does that if I do not keep them rotated.
They are so big and wide they seem to wear fast.
Once I got rid of the flying shoe brand on mine, my tire problems went away.
Those tires are not cheap to be sure.
Discount as always had the best price in my area.

I have had front wheel drive cars (grand am & Omni) that wore the back tires washboard like and they would be noisy like mud grips. Some brand tires may be worse about this than others.
Haven't had that problem with later cars that were heavier though.

'Bout 90% chance that it is nothing but tires.

Have you been “religiously” rotating/balancing every six thousand miles? If not, betcha that noise is nothing but old-fashioned feathering of the rears. They really set up a noise.

sounds like a loose nut behind the wheel...

regarding recalls, You can also 'Google' it and find recalls and TSB's.

You're on a tractor forum, (here). Look at some EDGE forums. I belong to several other forums myself and am able to glean much from them too...sl

Perhaps my response reads poorly.... I was trying to relate that it is because of this (tractor) forum I have advanced in my mechanic (tractor) skills and have prospered much, and that other forums (cars, boats, etc) are available to help those of us who otherwise...don't know.

I do realize this was O/T and was not bustin' your nuts....

I think lots of the folk here and want to pass good info along...

BTW, you mentioned in another post that you are in So. Cal. Likewise myself. I'm in the Menifee area, 92586....sl

Probably a rear wheel bearing. I had to replace one on my son"s Lincoln MKX. Found quite a bit of information on the internet that there were rear bearing problems with these vehicles.

probably a wheel bearing, it has been a problem on them. Updated part now and requires replacement of trailing arm assy along with the hub/brg. Is also a powertrain covered part if out of the base 3/36 warranty.
