i added a 3pt hydrolic hitch want to hook up 3 pt tiller talked to a dealer sales guy says that my 540 pto will not drive rototiller and tractor speed will be to fast low gear almost creeper gear says i need 2 speed pto to drive tiller anybody know if hes correct its a 1948 narrow ft end 27 hp tractor

PTO speed should be just fine but yes even in 1st gear the H may well go to fast to work well. I know on the older fords a tiller does not work well due to 1st gear going way to fast

The H was designed back in the day before somebody thought of using a three point hitch mounted, pto powered roto-tiller.

I agree with the others, it is way to fast in 1st gear. You almost need a hydro to do it well. The H also does not have live PTO. It is not a good fit for this application.

i use a 6ft tiller behind mine. 1st works fine as long as the ground is all ready broke up. as for power, the 6ft is fine but a 5 ft woul deb better. like the 6 because it gets the tracks. use it after i have plowed the ground to finish and in lay by the watermelons. leave sth emiddles perfect.

What I always think about not a slow enough gear for rototilling is, if you could reverse the rototiller to go backwards against the direction of travel it would work better.

Use a 6' behind a MF135. Works real good if ground is already broken. Just have to leave the multi-power in high, otherwhise it will push the tractor along if it is in low. 2nd go around, I can till in 2nd gear

I tried to till a new garden and it was too fast. I did not try it on a tilled garden, and we have fairly heavy soil.
