If they give you any teens or twenty-somethings to work with don't go expecting them to keep up with you!

I am also 61 and you are correct. After 55 no one wants you. If you have a medical problem. They really don't want you. Glad you have a job. I would love to have one. Enjoy the job.

Excellent news, glad it is working out. I'm 59, most of the kids can't keep up with me, don't have the drive or the gumption. Hope my health holds out so I can keep this going.

The more I go, the better I feel.

Congrats on the job!!

Been there and done that . I don't envy you one bit
Hard to convince customers that you don't take some #1 plastics and the lids for them. we always ended up with a lot of trash.

Best way to tell them is, If the lid is larger than the base -- we don't take it

If you use a set up point that people come to you it is twice as bad Pop or soda plastic bottles considered #1 usually don't get rinsed out creating a dangerous situation when the bees find you.

I got the best job of my life when I was 62.

Like they say in the Marine Corps, ATTITUDE IS EVERYTHING!

If you go on a job hunt convinced you're too old to be hired, you probably won't be. If you go out well rehearsed, well groomed, charged up, and ready to show companies how you'll be an asset to their operation, job offers will come.

Your mission at the moment is to convince a hiring manager he'd be missing the chance of a lifetime if he doesn't hire you. And then be ready to prove it with facts, figures, etc. It takes a lot of research on the company you're applying with, but it's worth it.

Roy,
I know what your saying .... THANK GOODNESS I only have to drive truck and get out and put the recyle box in the back and a older gal . sorts it ..
I get in and out the truck 100 to 200 times a day ... depends on the days route ...

Good for you!
It sounds like a tough job but someone has to do it. You're lucky it's you!
This is the slowest summer I've ever had in 17 years of remodeling. I haven't worked in 3 weeks. But today I picked up about 4 weeks of work. Not till after Labor Day though.
This week I considered giving up my internet access but paid the bill for another month.
Not much more belt to tighten here.

Dosen't always work that way Goose. I was in line for a job. Interview was going well. Until I told them I was 60 with cancer.

if you have to give up the paid internet access, you could use the free access. its slow, but it helps to have firefox, cookie monster and adbloker to keep the speed up and you might need a free long distance calling plan.. Also good to have it ready as a backup when the high speed goes down.
free dial up

I am happy for you that you found a job and your body can handle it. When I was 57 I got fired from my truck mechanic job because of personality conflicks with management. It was the only place that I ever worked where that happened. I thought no one would want me either. Well after about 2 months the fleet manager for a national dairy company called and wanted me to come in for an interview, said he found my resume online. I have no idea how it got there. He talked to my wife as I was out working at another job I had found. It had no benefits though. Anyhow the man that called wanted me because of my experience. He was tired of the people presently there. He had just taken over that shop. My wife told him about benefits and money that I needed to go to work there. That was on Friday night. He wanted me to interview on Saturday and at 3 P.M. Sat he hired me. It was the best thing that ever happened to me, job wise. I had to retire last year though because of bungled hip replacement surgeries ( three times on each side). This is the only place that I ever worked that had longterm disability insurance. I believe God's hand was in all of it.
