I CHANEGED THE STARTER ON MY F150 TODAY.TURNED THE KEY AND STARTER JUST TURNED OVER A LITTLE BIT NOT MAKING ONLY 3 INCHES IN MOVING OF THE FLYWHEEL AND QUIT. ITS ACTING LIKE IT CANT TURN ENGINE OVER. I PUT A SCREW DRIVER ACROSS SOLIENOID AND SAME THING HAPPENED JUST A LITTLE GRUNT.WOULD THERE BE ANYTHING ELSE ELECTRICAL IM MISSING TO CHECK. OR COULD ENGINE BE STUCK.JUST HAD IT TUNED UP A 1000 MILES AGO.ALL OIL IS RIGHT ON LINE ON DIP STICK. WHAT IS IT. JIM

can you put a socket and breaker bar on the crank bolt and turn it, have you looked in the radiator, any antifreeze in there, could be in the cylinders, or a very tired battery?

You didn't say what engine but you could pull the plugs out and try it. The symptoms you mentioned would be the result of a cylinder full of coolant.

get a voltmeter and check voltage at starter while cranking. If its less than about 10.5 volts you have a problem. Could very well be corroded cables, and you may not see it. Have seen lots of bad cables, get green death inside the cable.Could be in positive or ground cable. Have you tried turning engine over with a wrenc/socket on crank? It is most likely not engine problem. If you have a good battery and both starters act the same, its likely cable issue.

cjmal, Possible cause might be the water pump! They can lock down and present itself as another problem like the engine won't turn over. Drop the belt off the tentioner pulley, see it it will turn over then! Hope this helps.

Make sure starter is good. Also make sure starter is mounted exactly right. Maybe loosen mounting bolts and tap a little and retorque carefully. Other tips are good, too. Dave
