Im having some Skunks Around my Place.I Have a Live Trap & Will probably Catch a few. But What On Earth Will i do With It To Keep From Getting Sprayed When I Have One in The Trap? Thanks For Any advice & help.

I can tell you what works for me....

1st Don't leave the trap where you cannot get to it, to cover it up, if you do get a skunk in it...
2nd, leave the trap where the Sunshine will be all over it, once the sun rises...

Reason being...a Skunk Hates the Sunshine..!!
It will be in that trap, hiding it's Head..!!
Slip up on the trap slowly and lay a plastic-covered table cloth over the trap...
Then, carefully reach around the side of the trap and un-latch it...and prop the door part-way open..and Leave....!!!
When you come back, the Skunk will be gone and no spraying will be going on..!!

Now, I have covered the trap AND carried it to where I wanted to release it (away from a house) and the Skunk did not spray....But..I wouldn't advise this..!!

I live on a two acre wooded lot and had plenty of trouble with skunks digging for grubs last year. I trapped seven and ended up shooting them, didn't want to chance trying anything else. This year, early in the spring, I ran across a bug zapper that my mother-in-law had given us some twenty years ago(still in the box.)
I hung it in the back yard and I think the constant zapping at night is scaring them away. I have it on a dusk to dawn timer. First time in 4 years that I don't have the skunks and other animals punching holes in the yard. The zapper even makes our cats nervous when it gets dark.

I had skunk trouble too. I set the trap where I could pick them off with a .22. I've heard they don't like to get their spray on themselves. I suppose you could do the cover up thing, but I don't think I'd want someone else releasing their problem for me to deal with.

My neighbor would cover the trap in a blanket, then dunk the whole thing in the creek. You do not get blood on the trap that way. The blood can scare others away.

I tie a long rope on the live trap so I can pull it away from the building site and then shoot it. Leave it lay a day and then dump him out. Got seven last fall and this spring. Haven't seen any sign of any lately. One took a shot at me but I had a long enough rope.

Skunks come out at 8;45. Every human is in the house by 8;44. That's late enough for humans I think. The skunks spend the rest of the night hunting for mice, moles, beetles and grubs. I like that idea. The cat likes that idea too. He wants to go out and hunt with them. The more dead mice the merrier. Since they became friends with the cat, they don't spray at us anymore.. that is if anyone is still outside at 8;46.... all works out in the end. If you don't want them near the house, don't leave birdseed or food for other animals. They will hang around the door, and it kills their appetite for mice. But if you like mice, moles and grubs, these guys have fine ideas for you to try......
