Ot taking cattle across statelines

I live in southern Wisconsin and I have some heifers for sale and a potential buyer is from northern Illinois. Can I truck these cattle across stateliness?

Any help would be great.

Joe

I would call the department of agriculture for every state I had to pass through if unsure, the states I haul through have no restrictions on cattle under 1 year old, whether breeding stock or feeders and no restrictions on cattle bound straight for slaughter such as cull cows etc. Someone at the local sale barn probably knows as well as most large animal vets might know, almost all large volume seed stock sellers and show cattle have health certificates issued by a Vet that is good in any state. There are a surprising number of different rules in various states so it is best to get it straight from the offical source.

We have moved our show herd thru several states to Wisconsin several years Always got health certificate from local Vet It was checked by vet at show. Your local Vet can get the official requirement, Do not try and sneak in if caught the result would not be fun. gitrib

When a loaded livestock truck with feeder cattle crosses the state line the first scale he crosses will want to see the health cert and proof of ownership. Same if the DOT stops him somewhere. Livestock truckers avoid scales like the plague but sometimes there's no other way to go but across one. Jim

i don"t think there should be a problem.
i have bought and cattle in wi and brought them to il and sold cattle to people in wi.
i think all you need is paper from vet saying aminal is healthy call your local vet.
i have sold cattle to people in other states and some of them are a real Pain IN the Azz.

Virgil,

You have highlands correct? That is what I would taking across. It is barely in Illinois. Paper from vet or a bunch of tests?

Joe

We don"t have brand inspectors east of the Missouri river. Some states require health papers and some state/counties are quarantined but to go from WI to IL you don"t need any thing.

I haul my calves from MN to IA to sell them. As long as the cattle are going to a slaughterhouse or a state-licensed salesbarn you don't need any paperwork. If you sell them directly to a private party, you need to have the vet check them out and give you paperwork and get a permit from Iowa to haul them into the state. I'm not sure if IL is the same, but I would look into it if that's where you're going with them.
