destroyed again

well what started out as a beautiful day on the farm ended up bad, we just got another ' 100 year flood' thats the 4th in 30 years, this one due to rain run off from a 100,000 acre fire earlier in the year, this farmstead is a wreck, we got the house and 2 sheds left still, not much else, did save 3 tractors and the trucks, i think anyway the last one out , a '83 chevy 1 ton flatbed was pushing water over the top of its hood on the way out, wasnt running too good by then either,
also all the animals although there in mud up to their hocks, due to pens being destroyed, got to see what i can find and salvage today

So sorry for your loss. I truely wish there was something I could do to help. Where are you located? You and yours are in our prayers. I know it's not much comfort right now, but you still have yourself and the power of friends. Keith

Animals are tuffer than folks think. As for machinery, wash them off and change fluids (if contaminated) right away befpore things dry. If you think you sucked in water, take the plugs out and crank it enough to blow anything out then start and run a while. Grew up by a river that flooded and covered our whole place at least twice a year along with a bunch of campers that left stuff out. Get rid of the nasty mud right away and you should be OK for salvageing. As for the animals, you may want to consider raising a spot above grade a little for drainage with gravel or something and make you a corral type place for emergencies.

Good Luck

eric,

I'm truly sorry to hear of your situation. I've been a Global Climate Change skeptic since the whole thing started, but I have to admit, that things are really getting strange.

This is the third year in a row that we've had searing heat and drought at our farm. It has rained around us, but not on us. My pastures and hay fields are destroyed. I'm going to have to start feeding hay to the animals very soon. There's just nothing left for them to eat.

I hope you are able to recover from your flood.

When people like you explain a situation, they assume their talking to some neighbor, why aren't people smart enough to let others know where there located,
I'd have to say the answer is, no common sense.

Yea, but that dumbbastard has enough balls to log in and post under the same name all the time............ Now, let the grownups talk....

It's pretty hard to fight mother nature when she's mad. Hope you can recover without too much loss. Best wishes. Jim

should have added im in central nm, about 50 miles west of roswell, mountainous teraine the flooding is caused by run off from a wildfire earlier in the year,

im going to have to do that i figure i need to raise a few acres for the animals at least 5 feet verticly to keep them safe untill the water and mud dry, this is the first time the whole farmstead area was under water usually a few pens are high enough to escape, not this time, and it will happen again if we get heavy rain

What are you talking about for animals and how many???

Man you guys are really getting it! First the fire and now the floods! i was down in your country last fall to pick up a tractor I bought near Hagerman. You must be around the Hondo area.

cattle are safe where they are, on the farmstead around the house and outbuildings we keep 4 1/2 saddle horses [ the 1/2 horse is a minature thats a pet] and a few goat mowers to help keep the weeds down, horses could probably get by on a acre, goats are on their own lol, got access to a cat d-6 lgp, so i can probably get that done when it dries out enough to use the dozer if i remember this one weighs around 38,000 lbs

Promise, consider the situation and don't be so hard on the boy! If you had just taken a hit and were standing up to your butt in flood water you might not think of everything either!
ericlb, I feel for you and yours. I sincerely hope that you will be able to recover and keep on going.

northern hemisphere is in an el nino weather pattern. Causes problems like early 70's. Forest fires are not global warming. Heavy downpours are not global warming.
