goverment grants

Yeah, you save up the money and hire someone to fix your house or do a little of the work yourself each week, paying as you go or you go to the local bank, borrow the money to fix your house and then work and pay it back with interest. There is no such thing as ''Government grants'' Government money'' etc. its all taxpayers money.

Where ARE your people skills???????????????

Hey, c'mon...GWB and OB had/have gazillions for Wall Street, for blowing up people all around the world, to cover up the Fat Cat Banks mortgage debacle...you might as well get the pennies you can, at least your house'll be insulated when everything smashes and we're heating with cardboard and newspapers...if we can afford newspapers...

Around here if you are a huge huge dairy operation and having issues with pollution of the streams you are near you will likely get a grant to cover the cost of putting abatment facilities in place. If you are a smaller operator you will get fined.

Poor elderly people can have their homes rehab by the goverment, FOR FREE, insulated, new appliances, high efficiency furnaces and water heaters. It costs the tax payers $350,000 for each government job it creates. WHAT A DEAL!

onedeere37, in thre older days ...You apply, if you qualify, you get $$ to do the repair. end of subject.
BUT************Now there are some grants/free Money that the external_linkNESS has mandated,, IF YOU TAKE THEM....THEY (THE GOV.) OWNES YOUR SOUL! FOR LIFE!!! Buyer Beware!!!!
I personally would not take a new shiny penny from the Gov, at least as long as the current administration is in power! BUYER BEWARE!!
Later,
John A.

Depends on which grant. I know two people that have gotten them. Talk with social services and see if you qualify. Around here its pretty tough, limits on income, assets, and family size. The one I know of, lady owned her own home, single mom, 4 kids, 15 buck and hour job, less than 1000 in the bank, owed as much on the house as it was worth, house was pretty unsafe. She lived in an urban area. Local building inspection handled the grant and contractors. They upgraded everything, spent about 50 grand on it, put a 50 grand lien on the house and on her for 20 years. If she gets a better job or sells the house for any more than she owes it has to be paid back, if not its forgiven.

Other one was out of TARP funds. It wasnt an improvement but it makes house payments if you are at least 60 days behind, laid off after 2008, and if you went back to work took at least a 30 percent pay cut.

Well you're just a typical abundant, aren't you? You have no problem with taking other people's money.

Be sure to pass that ethic along to your children.

Red, now take it easy...I thought improving dwellings, making them warmer, safer, healthier places for families, thereby improving the local community and incidentally creating some work for working people was a Family Values type of thing Conservatives supported...
It'd be a shame if it was all corrupted by accepting "gubmint" (the peoples) money... I don't begrudge OR37 my share.

I have a uncle from my moms side living in a house I own that was my grandfathers on my fathers side. Without me knowing about it "weatherization (?) came in and improved (?) my house. They tore out all the windows and replaced them with with super ugly, super cheap, single hung plastic inserts. They also replace the doors with ones I would not even want on the outhouse. What was once a classic looking house now looks as goofy as a duck wearing shoes. Then they blew insulation in the attic. One big pile of cellulos, right in the center of the attic. A very enterprising contractor fed the hopper and sprayed the insulation all by him self. They were all pleased, I just shut up

They are out there haven't checked lately. In Ky Community action will fix your house to a certain point. They make sure it's insulated and water proof, may do heat and air, but you have to be pretty well broke to get their aid. And probably have a 500-1000 sq ft house for them to do anything.
