Trailer tires

Have a flat bed trailer with two 7,000 lb axles. Tires are Freestar 16" R with an "E" rating. Usually don't max the trailer out, but should I go to a heavier tire at replacement time? Thanks

That's what I'm running on a similar setup. On the other hand I don't know if there's a heavier tire to be had in that kind of a size? Sam

E is the heaviest rating i ever been able to get in 16"...i run triple axles with a 13000# dozer on it.

What size are the 16 inch tires? There are a lot of sizes to be had, maybe the next size bigger would fit on the rims and under your trailer.

I kept blowing out the E rated tires on my 5th wheel camper (Goodrich and Continental General) so I replaced them all with Goodyear G at about 2x the cost. No problems yet. Jerry

i have Michelin tires on both my goose/5th r-v, the have a stronger side wall to help stabilize the loads,,,,there is also a tire that is more ply rating than 10-ply,,,it's a 'g' rating, that what the low-boy trailers use. check with tire suppliers, don't mess with cheap/off brands names,,,,you life/others is more important than saving a buck....my opinion
