Trailer hitch coupler sticking?

I have 4 trailers all with the 12,500 ball coupler and the locking collars with a d-clip to maintain the collar over the coupler. All of them have aged some what now and the collars stick and need to be hammered forward and pryed off. Anyway to repair those. I am pretty sure there is a collar underneath the outer collar. Looking for a way to fix them without having to cut the coupler off and buy a new one and re-weld. Thanks for any help.

check for dirt mud rocks jammed tn the coupler mechanism , that stuff is hard to find in there and a little bit will really foul things up

I've had a similar problem with my trailer . I occassionally pour used oil over the hitch assembly , beta it with a hammer & work it a few times . It's kept mine working ok . HTH ! God bless

hit them / soak in a derusting bath.. it naval jelly or CLR, move them back and forth to distribute it.. that should get them moving.. then clean that off good, and lube them with silicone spray. paint exterior surfacec.. etc.. etc..

I'd ease up on the beating with a hammer advice. Put a block of wood between the hammer and the coupling or you're liable to just make the whole problem worse.

I agrree with the lube and force until loosening, just use your head.

After clean and free , lube it up with spray graphite. It won't gum up with dust from your tow vehicle like other lubricants or antiseize.
