Garage Building Code

Hello,

Looking to build a 2 bay detached garage for my farmall h and Ford 960. Not sure if the local zoning code will let me have a decent garage or not.

I don't quite understand how to measure the height they say 12' high and to measure it the average distance between the eaves and the ridge of a gable or gambrel roof.

Is this basically the center line of the gable end?

Does anyone have a picture that shows this point or can better describe it to me?

thanks

Most rural area have an Agricultural exemption that allows farmer to build with only a permit to build, usually without paying any fees and any restriction on size or height. If you are restricted by zoning codes they are availible at your village or township hall. You should speak with your zoning inspector they are there to help you not hinder you. As far as measuring the height of the building it would be to the highest point excuding wind vanes and such (the ridge).

Our code is that way too. The "height" is midway from the drip edge to the ridge. Ours goes a step further and says it it measured at the "front yard" ei; on the front side of the building.
