I have a pole shed with a rusty galvinized roof should I first paint primer then paind it or is there other products out there ? there are no holes in it

Depending on how rusty the metal is , I"d use a wire wheel on a grinder to scruff it up some , sweep it clean , then brush on a rust neutralizer from an auto parts store that handles auto body paint materials .Tell them you are dealing with galvanized steel . Then I"d prime it good with Rustoleum red oxide primer .Then brush on a good coat of a good enamel paint suggested by the paint shop .After it all dries a couple days , I use a good mobil home roof coating after I do all this .HTH !Its a lot of work & extras , but it"ll last several years . God bless

Use a rust primer on the rusty areas and then use LATEX. You can brush it on or roll it on with a thick roller.Prime with LATEX primer and then a good coat of LATEX enamel. Latex will stay on because it will expand and contract and it "breathes". Ordinary enamel will crack with expansion and contraction and be peeling within a year. All the pro barn painters around here use LATEX on steel roof. I did my shed with LATEX and its great,a larger colour selection and it does have a shine and looks like new steel.

I put used tin on my shop about 15 years ago and it had some rusty patches on it. I bought aluminum roof coating and mixed it half and half with diesel fuel to make it spread easier. Brushed it on with a short push broom on a long handle. I am just beginning to see some rust show now.

I used oil base barn paint on my rusty roof.
takes ALONG time to dry. might have to paint a second coat, or at least i did. now it looks great

That oil based aluminum paint is the way to go, spendy but lasts for decades. The oil floas to the bottom & seals up the rust, the aluminum floats to the top and seals minor scratches for a few years, heals itself. Harder to find a good type any more, and it does cost, but considering anything elese you will be repeating 3-5 years, this you do and are done for a few decades, well worth it.
