Check planting corn demo

I had not seen that done before, anybody know how the next row after turn keeps in sync. across the field? Do ya tie the knot at the stake and keep the end rows perpendicular to the field row? Later,, Dan

sorry about that, there is a stake at both ends of the field holding the wire in position, you put the stakes in a straight line on each end of the rows you are planting, so the wire knots stay in the same spot on the row as you plant the field, there is more details on my youtube site, thanks rod

That is how we planted corn when I was a kid (60's). Dd had a 4 row JD. His fields at home were 120 rods long and aobut 20 rods wide. Made for a lot of turning when plowing crosswise. especially with the F-20 and hand lift cultivator.

That was an art you learned how to reset the stake holding the wire and where to set it after turning around to make the nest pass. My Dad was verry good at planting with the check wire. I started cultivating when i was 13 with a new B Farmall and exhaust lift cult. Wnen crossing after the first time only had the first couple of rows you needed to go slow to stay on the row then it went just fine. The planting with check wire was sure a craft and most did a great job of setting the stake making crossing easy.

How would you get 25,000 and more plants per acre checking and crossing. Stop and think it cant be done when you need a plant every 7in or even closer. Remember in 40 in rows and dropping 4 seeds every 40 in you didnt have over 15,000 or so plants per Acre and that wont produce hardly 100 bu per A. That will not feed a hungry population talk about famine.

Small self guided tractors don't need to be on big rubber and big rows to cultivate. Herbicide resistance is here and coming on stronger every year, if scientists don't work faster than the weeds, and farmers don't use herbicide rotations etc its going to catch us very soon.
