Why lie to folks to get stuff sold, that's worn out junk? Yea it's buyer beware time. Some people get a charge out of giving the shaft to their fellow man,and never look back.Reading posts on here makes me doubt the truthfulness- sincerity of some.I won't point the finger towards the ones I doubt are sincere, cause I Won't.Hard to prove claim, but other then GREED I see no reason to not disclose the faults with the items one has for sale. What do you think?. PHIL

I buy beater 4x4's for hunting season about every three years. I always buy them from the same guy..he will tell me what is wrong with them and prices them fair. I guess I'm still a sucker, but believe in the power of a handshake. one of the trucks I bought from him did exactly as he said it would--blew the engine in the first month...I already had the engine sitting for it, still worth the money. I've seen rearends packed with sawdust, bondo covering broke suspension, body shims when the car was supposed to be accident free--nothing surprises me anymore.

Phil other than thinking that yer trying to stir the pot a little.....I kinda agree, a person is responsible for their actions ot lack of em....

That scenario Seems to travel down the family food chain so to speak. Greed from parents to children-children to childrens children, on and on.Seems no end in sight. Da== sorry lot I say.Phil

Rick, Not trying to Stir up any thing, just thinking of those who get shafted with descriptions of articles for sale that's in GREAT SHAPE and as soon as the buyer gets it home, INSTANT JUNK. Repair bill is outta sight. Phil

Phip I just went through that myself with a haybine that I was assured by a dealer only needed one repair. I just think that someday it's going to come back and bite him in the butt.

when money gets tight peoples morals go out the window,if they ever had any to start with.

I got burned by that. I bought a "parade ready" John Deere B on ebay, when I got to pick it up, found out it was stuck and had not run in more than a year.

It took me long enough to coordinate the pickup that the ebay guarantee expired. The owner gave me part of my cash back, only lost about $400, that is the cost of experience.

You're lucky. My brother bought a truck from a dealer in Atlanta. Few months later he gets contacted by a Repo company... the dealer never paid off the loan on it.

Dealer filed for bankruptcy, truck got repo'd, brother got screwed... cops said it was a civil matter, lawyer said the bankruptcy filing means he's out of luck.

When I look at ads for certain model tractors I often wonder if they have cracked heads or blocks because in my area it was VERY common to see this when in person.

although it's unusual down here due to the climate i was offered several
"ready to work" tractors that were suspect. when the seller can't answer or hesitates to answer (thinking up one..) questions about the history of the machine I get that gut feeling to walk away.

I later found out that there are several guys here that pick up non running tractors out of state at scrap value, fool with them enough to get them running and hide as many issues as they can and then sell them.

A fellow I know bought a 8N from one such guy and while it tested fine the 10 minutes or so he ran it before buying it, once he put it to work it immediately overheated. The radiator was full of "block seal" Got that flushed at the radiator shop and within a few days had water in the oil.

Guys at the radiator shop told him the block seal was very recent as the core of the radiator was "shiny".... so it had already been rodded recently.

Seller told him "well never had a problem when I had it, that's how it goes when you buy old iron"

Then a local dealer asks him "did you buy this from ____?" then proceeds to tell him the guy is a huckster.

No young guy either, he's in his 60s and comes across as just nice good ol boy who doesn't need his long time friend tractor any longer...

At least the guy I bought mine from was honest about it. Told me what he knew was wrong and that as it had been sitting 2yrs there was probably more wrong with it now...

He was right! Runs great but has a host of issues with little stuff that is going to be expensive and time consuming to repair.

If there's ever a "next time" I'll spend the extra money on one that needs nothing. The difference in price between a running "project" and one that someone else has already sorted out or who has kept it maintained properly in the first place is a bargain....LOL Live and learn

philw,
yeah, some people have no morals. But.... that's life. Overall, I've been lucky buying used stuff. Haven't been burned REALLY bad. A big factor, IMO, is that Ebay and online auction sites allow people to sell stuff without being face-to-face.

I frequent an online auction site that I am very cautious about. There are numerous vehicles that I look at and wonder why is the person putting this on an auction site where they can remain anonymous before and after the sale? Cars/tractors and anything else that is fairly complicated can have lots of hidden problems that will only show up AFTER you get it home. I have few qualms about buying simpler stuff like attachments or farm gates or other stuff where WYSIWYG.

I know an individual whose only concern is for himself. He will make sure that he gets the better part of any deal to the extent that if he has the opportunity to s***w you, he will. Without blinking an eye. Don't know how the guy can look in the mirror in the morning without slitting his throat. But at someone pointed out to me, the guy doesn't think anything is wrong with his behavior, so he has no trouble sleeping at night. Funny thing is, this person is always talking about what a good Christian person he is and how he donates his time to his church, etc.

On the plus side, I DID buy my tractor via an online auction and have been pretty happy with it (knock on wood).

Wonder why you are not registered.

Guests sometimes have something to hide ?

I am generally honest to a fault. But it seems that doesn't sell stuff!
Seems that most people would rather be lied to rather than know everything that you know is wrong with the equipment you are selling. That's been my experience anyway. I won't change my ways, I'd still rather take longer to sell something and be able to sleep at night.
