miserable OT

had my deviated septum cut out this morning and turbinates shaved down. Wishing I had gotten in fewer fist fights as a boy or at least had been better at it. Blood running down the throat and dripping out my nose. Worst is I can't use CPAP which I have become dependant on. Supposed to pick up a tractor wednesday 80 miles away. May have under estimated the recovery. Sorry to whine, distracting myself

Hope recovery speeds up. Haven't had that problem so really can't give advice on it.

Yeah, you sound miserable. Misery loves company. Still nursing my hand that I caught on a baling accident. 18 stitches, $2000 ininsured hospital bill. Did it on July 4th, still far from healed. Stitches pulled out, didn't hold wound together well enough. When you're a farmer how do you not use your hand? Every time you move, the back of the hand stretches... I feel for you.

Ouch, nothing worse than an injury that keeps you for working. I guess the good part is that you didn't lose it all together. I have paid out close to ten grand in medical this year. My sone needed a surgery, wife had one and now me.

thx, will be ok in a couple days an hopefully was worth it to breath easier. Most of my life as soon as I lay down my nose got stuffed up.

i had the same surgery. about 6months after open heart surgery. bad news is; it hurt 10times worse then the open heart. good news is; you'll love it when it heals up. never been sorry 1 day for having the surgery!

Wife is recovering from breast cancer surgery as well. Not been a prosperous summer for us, at all.

Yeah, what most people don't realize is that farming don't wait. If you need time to recuperate, the farm don't care, it has to have attention.
Been putting off some surgery myself, may have it done this fall or winter.
Best wishes to all who are recovering, and hope everything works out in your favor.

I had that done 15 years ago, and feel for you. I would plan to be down for a couple of weeks. The trauma is a lot when the doctors work that close to your brain.

Take it easy.

Have a bent honker also, broke it in a ballgame when I was a lad. Breathrite Nasal Strips for me. Cheaper than surgery. Less painful too.

Had the surgery about 10 years ago and was told that it was so simple it was being done outpatient, which they did. Simple or not the recovery period that they said would be about aweek turned into two and a half. Seems when your setting on your butt behind a desk all day you don't stress the area where the surgery is done that much and you can go back to work almost immediately. Unfortunately when you work outside for a living and actual do manual labor the stress to the area is not a good thing, and tends to cause more bleeding and drainage than the law allows.

Through all the pain, sickness from the drainage, being bored off my a$$ from not being able to work for so long, etc, etc, etc, I have absolutely no regrets for having the surgery done. When I went in the Dr said the way my septum was deviated I had only about half of the area to breath through that I should have had. No fights, no broken noses, no nothing to give as a reason for things being screwed up, it was just the 'hand I was dealt'. Once everything healed I could breath better than I ever could before.

appy for all you folks with a success story........my would keep you away from ENT doctors......no improvement, actually worse, can small a darn thing , even ammonia bottle at my nose. Taste not a lot better than smell, but thankfully just a little. All that pain/suffering/dollars for worse than in the beginning. I advise to tell the ENT docs to look elsewhere for their boat payment.

I had that surgury done and it has been great. Dr. said for years that it restricted my breathing, even though I didn"t think it was a problem. A broken nose prompted me to finally get it done, and I didn"t know how much restriction it was. As a side effect, I have not had a nose cold since it was done 3 years ago.

DUDE.........You must be sucki... I can't even pick my nose without panicing from the restricted breathing..........
Hope you get healed quick. Is this rotorooting gonna wipe out the need for the CPAP tho?

on't wait a minute longer to get the wheels in motion. Most Dr.s and facilities are booked months in advance. I have had a knee replacement booked for Nov. 8th since June.

I had a similar surgery done about 25 years ago. The ENT Doc said I must have broken my nose really bad at some time, but I didn't remember that ever happening. When I had the surgery, I had suffered an almost constant sinus infection for years, and the antibiotics didn't help anymore.

I think the worst part of my surgery was the recovery period. The Doctor had stitched splints that looked like plastic wings with soda straws on them into each nostril. If I remember correctly, I had to have them in my nostrils for about a week. No fun at all when the Doc pulled them out, since the wing part was way bigger than my nostrils. And then he pulled out yards and yards of gauze. It amazed me that that much stuff could fit inside my nose area.

Not much fun, but it was effective. I could breathe much better after things healed up, and I quit having the constant sinus infection and pressure in my cheekbones. If I had known how much better it would eventually make me feel, I think I would have had the surgery 20 years earlier.

I started using a CPAP machine a few weeks ago. It took some getting used to, but I think my sleep time is much more effective now. I am not needing nearly as many daytime naps as I was before I started with the machine. And my wife says now I don't snore almost at all.

Good luck with your recovery--hope you get the relief I did!

been on cpap for a while , then had the cutting done . itwas sore for a bit . but still use the machine . but it was many years i dont remember having a dream , get them by times now. and if i dont use the machine for couple of days its not that bad now . but still use the machine .

I feel your pain. I can't get a decent night's rest without the c-pap as my nose surgery didn't work as well as hoped.
The chronic lack of sleep is a significant factor in many health problems.

A coworker of mine took a week off for that same surgury a few weeks ago. Said he's never felt so miserable.

I think a salesman that comes in regularly for our tooling just had it done this week too. Should be fun to talk to him in a week when I see him again.

Seems to be a common occurance lately.
