851 auto tie

Baling this afternoon and the auto tie 851 was working fine and then after it fininshed tieing it just kept tripping. Don't see anything stuck or any broken springs, any idea what would keep tripping it? Trip lever is free and not tripping it. The lever that pulls the knives down comes up and brifly holds the brake, but then it trips again. Anybody ever have this happen, it has been working fine all summer. Thanks for any help.

Yep, just went thru that.

Reach in there and see if that very top trip cam assembly is free on it's shaft. If it is gummed up or stuck to the shaft, it can never shut off.

It should turn freely and only have very light spring pressure against it's rotation.

Also, check to see if the little nylon roller is on the outter lug.

The cam is all free, cleaned off some grease and the arm that pulls up the knife must have had a tab welded on at one time from another owner. Looks like there welding let go, I will have to pull it off and weld a square piece on it. Not sure what happened that caused them to weld on it, but that seems to be the problem. Thanks for the information.

The auto's are nice and quick but when they don't work it sure stops the show.
