I just watched Prairie Home Companion......

Do they actually show that stuff in the States or did someone think it would be a good joke to push it off on AFN so they can feed it to overseas military folks??????? Easy enough to turn the chanel on dumb stuff but this was sostubid that you wanted to see what happened next...

Done now except for still shaking my head....

(quoted from post at 03:27:27 07/30/11) Dave, remember the good old days before TV?

No, but when I was a kid, we lived in a small river valley and as close as we could build to cross country high voltage power lines. we could only see a 13 inch B&W TV and then only a couple channels and only on dry days....... Only time I watch American TV now is when I work nights or weekend/holidays and am stuck with the AFN programming (does have it's good stuff but not always)....

LOL AFN goes with the cheapest bidder after doing surveys of the troops every so many years. AFN has and always will be a joke!

Rick......3 yours in Germany.....one in Korea plus deployments.

When did you retire/get out of the service??? Did the tanks have track pads yet??

Where were you in Germany and Korea?

When I was kid, all we could get was two channels, CBS and NBC stations. Best part was Sat. mornings, old cartoons (good ones like Bugs Bunny or Roadrunner and Coyote) and then "Roy Rogers Theater". I used to wish there was more channels to watch.
All these years later, I have Dish Network with 500 plus channels. And guess what...still nothing to watch!! Not even the old cartoons or Roy Rogers.
I do try to watch Classic Tractor Fever on RFDTV though if I remember to record it.

Dave,

I haven't had a television for many, many years so I didn't even know that "A Prairie Home Companion" was televised. I do, however, often listen to it on National Public Radio late on Saturday afternoons.

There's no doubt that it is goofy, but I still find it entertaining while I'm doing something else that actually interests me.

Garrison Keillor is looking for someone to succeed him on the program. He's ready to retire (again).

Why do you think I spend most of my TV time on the computer ?

The only reason I have a TV is to keep others here occupied .

Garrison Keillor, is not for everybody I agree but no one since Will Rogers, compares with him in the wit and talent departments. No, I don't think he is perfect, he works harder than most celebrities.

Personally,... I'd rather have bamboo slivers shoved under my fingernails, than have to watch "Prairie Home Companion."

I find anyone who's goofy enough to wear red tennis shoes with a suit,... to be less than "entertaining".

Unbelievable the popular folks they got to play in it.......... I guess I got a kick out of some of it tho........Mainly the two country singers (woody harrelson and the other guy)

They took a corny but sometimes funny radio show and tried to make a movie about it and it sorta sucked. If you think it was the worst you've ever seen you got a lotta turd$ to see yet.

I work in Schweinfurt now. Worked a couple years at the garrison headquarters in Bamber. up til 2008. You must have been over on moona (SP?) kasserne.... It's a ghosttown now and the only thing folks go thru it for is to railhead..............

Don't really remember, got to Bamberg in mid Nov 91 and was in Mannheim in Jan 92. I'd just finished in-processing when the RCMD held a formation and announced that 2ACR was a victim of the draw down. Kinda sad in a way. On my 1st tour we would go and relieve 2ACR on the border when they had to go to gunnery at Graf and ARTEPS in Hoenfels.
