Hey Hendrik??? Agriomatic??

Hendrik,
since the agriomatic is more on our side of the lake, which do you think would be the better choice as far as troublefree, less costly repairs, etc in an older tractor (in this case the IHC 423 range)?
Agriomatic or a normal trans with 8 forward and 2 reverse and a seperate PTO clutch?
best translation from tractorlexicon that says the tractor was standard with agriomatic but was sold with the other option.

Thanks,

Dave

Dave the Agrimatic transmisson was no trouble in the larger 523 tractors. Got a 523 in the workshop at the moment for a general tidy up and engine overall but the angrymatic transmisson is OK. MJ

My thought too because joe blow woodcutter/horsepoop mover don't even know what they are to use them.... Had my little tractor 10 years before I was taught it was more than just a hi/lo range shifter.......

Other side tho, even with the agriomatic, I still have the habit that just won't kick of reaching for the clutch pedal.

Dave.
The agriomatiks are virtually bullet proof. We had three tractors so equipped.
One 430 (narrow tread orchard version) was worked to death, the agriomatik survived.
The other 430 was worked to death too, including heavy use of the agriomatik: that agriomatik survived too :)
Our 453 (1972) did not see much mercy either but is still going strong.
The agriomatik is a wet multidisk friction clutch. The clutch can be adjusted for wear from the outside of the transmission (takes a wrench, a punch and a hammer; in the field again in 10 minutes).
Test the agriomatik clutch as you would test a standard clutch. If it doesn't slip under load or shudder while engaging, you're good to go.

I think you will have a hard time finding a 423 with standard transmission w/ 8 forward and 2 reverse gears. I've never seen one, so I cannot comment on their durability.
HTH, Hendrik

Thanks! Someone told me the agriomatics would go bad............ guess they just didn't want to talk them up because they didn't have one themselves....
