I've got a 2010 chevy flex fuel pickup with 26000
miles.I filled the tank with E85 today for the first time at 3.29 per gallon. After about 25 miles the service engine light came on.The owners manual says it monitors the fuel system and air polution.I wonder what the problem is.It has a flex fuel badge on the tailgate.

Sometimes it takes a while for the computer to catch up but I'd take it in and have it dianosed.

After you filled it, how far did you drive it? If you switch between gas and E85, or E85 to gas, you MUST drive at least 7 miles without shutting it off right after filling it. It tells this in your owners manual. The PCM needs time to learn the alcohol content in the fuel. When you put fuel in, always put at least 3 gal in so it will detect a refuel event, then go for a drive. If you didn't go for a drive after filling I'll bet you will find P0171 and P0174. Lean codes for each bank. I'll bet you also find under estimation of alcohol in fuel content.

I drove it 20 miles home with no light. It sat for a few hours then went for a drive.About 5 miles later the light came on.

Maybe it's a whole different problem that showed up by coincidence.

Scan it or have someone scan it.

Our van did that, just run it, it will eventually go off. Dont wait so long before using E85, itll clean things up in the fuel system, and set off the SEL in the process. (According my my dealer)theres alot of controversy on this board about using E85, whether or not to use, but I do for the most part, in this van.(And in my tractors!)

I"ve been running a 40 to 60% mix of E85 and gas in a 2000 non-flex fuel Ranger with 4.0L. I run synthetic anyway and, for a time the price point was useable. I put in a stronger mix the other day and got a Check Engine light later on, for the first time I might add. I have my own scanner and it was a "lean bank" problem. I put some more gas in and it hasn"t come back. Short story, run a little gas with the E85 and it should be okay. Once/if I start having problems I will re-evaluate my E85 useage. If the price of E85 stays stable(~$3.19)AND gas hangs around $3.50 then I"m not saving much $$$$.
