Had a request for more pics of the DD so thought I would repost this here. It is a very cool machine!
The owner claims it drives like driving a truck and trailer from the rear of the trailer! I hope he brings it to our show or better yet to a plowing even where we have some elbow room so he can give driving lessons/oppertunitys! Hint Hint Scott....

This is very interesting as my Dad in about 1958 teamed his Oliver 88 and a 77 together and tried them out on his Oliver 5/14" plow. His set up was primative compared to the DD unit. The 7 front sat on an I beam which was attached to the 77 drawbar ,the front of the I beam had a hitch attached which sat on the 88 drawbar. The clutch had a manual type rod to engage and disengage the 77 clutch and the throttle likewise had a rod/handle to operate the throttle.Lots of fine tuning went into this unit but as it ran away with the 5 bottom and he could not find a 7 bottom plow at that time to borrow[he would not buy one just to see if the unit could pull the plow], he gave up on the idea as the Super 99 the 5 bottom plow was used with could pull the plow and use less gas than the 88 and 77 coupled did.It was a challenge for him to turn at the end of the land what with all the controls to operate. At least he tried as my mom would say, always supportive.

Interesting project for the FFA kids. Only they can claim to have been part of a restoration of a double D setup. On a side note, all of the Canadian and Montana towns that have been mentioned so far are towns I have either traveled through or near to during my harvesting days. Gives me the urge to pack the van and take off to re-visit them and the nice people I ran onto in Saskatchewan. Jim

Back in 1958 Ernest Doe made the Triple D tractor based on two Fordson Power Major tractors and they were a sucess selling nearly 400 of them. In the last few years other people have made their own dual tractors they include two MM UTSs two David Brown 990s two Ferguson TE 20s and one Doe modification using three Fordson Super Major tractors.
