Forecast says rain...and I got more hay to cut.Should I cut it and hope to get lucky,or..wait for a 'window' and get it rained on anyway?

I got enough ready for a hundred or so bales that is damp from the night air. Plan is sleep til 12 or so (just got off night shift) rake and bale. Calls for a little rain early afternoon now. Just gotta hope cause can't do anything with it til the moisture goes away. May get lucky. Only calling for 2/10's of a milimeter but it's still wet stuff. Then more the rest of the week.

Good Luck

If your weather is anything like it's been in MN all summer, just roll the dice and cut some. If I would have waited for windows the only hay I would have made this year would have been what I baled on June 3rd and the 4th of July. I cut about 15 acres that got rained on for 2 weeks, but other than that I've put up some pretty good hay. I've been making a lot more balage than I planned, but you gotta take whatever you can get. If I would have been brave and ignored the forecasts a bit more I would have put up a lot more good-quality dry hay, but it seems like it's almost always "going to rain tomorrow" but then it doesn't.

If your weather is like mine's been all july there's no hope in he!! you get it in green and dry.
It been raining here every other day.
They weather man said day before yest" no rain in all of next week".

I cut 50 acre yest,guess what?.
I woke up to steady rain this morning.

How come wheather guys are not liable for their BS??
I don't know why i still listen to that bunch of idiots.

That's a tough call, here it rains every 3 days and between humid and no wind. Forecast was wrong for yesterday, I should have cut on Sunday, neighbor did and baled some nice hay yesterday. Rained last night. I'm going to gamble from now on, never did finish 1st crop and now 2nd is getting way over due. Haven't baled in two weeks, worst year ever!!

I would go out and just pretend you are mowing, keep the cutter bar in the air. It will the fool Murphy's law spies. Or, cut a little, and sacrifice a few swath's to Murphy. Or if you have a nice tedder, cut a little, see what the weather does. If you don't have a soaking wet heavy windrow tedder, email lyle, he has 12 or 14 you can pick from...
