Do coons have a certain time at night when they feed? Myself & Henry repeter would like to give a welcome party. They have not bothered my first two plantings but are playing heck with what is ready now!!

Racoons by nature are not nocturnal animals. The only reason they come out at night is because they feel safer. If there is no threat from humans, 'coons will strike in the middle of the day.

You might try the pepsi and fly bait trick, it will get rid of coons in the corn. they do not get very far after eating it. I pour some in a throw away pie tin and then pour pepsi or another sweet drink into it and mix it up. they are after the sweet of the drink. wash hands good afterward.

Frank - I'm wanting to try the fly bait/Pepsi mixture, but I'm worried about my dog and the barn cats. How do you keep them out of it?

Haven''t had a problem with cats and dogs getting it yet. I haven't raised any corn in about three years, but the last time I did I got corn, before the fly bait and pepsi I would raise four long rows and get very little corn. used to have trouble with birds but fake snakes helped that. cats and dogs supposedly don't bother it, I always put it in the corn, not outside of the corn, that way it only gets the guilty coons. I can't guarantee that cats and dogs won't get into it. I know possums and groundhogs will though, I have found possums at it dead, and I used it on a ground hog once.

We pick it up before letting the dogs out. My uncle hasn't been able to kill the neighborhood cats with it. He put some out for that purpose.

I see them come to our corn cribs before dark even. If you sit out at night, try setting up a shop light right in front of you. Looking at the bright light they can’t see you in the dark behind it. They seem a little more cautious with the light, but it won’t stop them curious critters. Just be patient, don’t scratch that trigger finger too early. And if you’re being so nice as to throw them this welcome party, why not let the extended family show up ; ) Where there’s 4 or 5 there’s usually more. And don’t leave your seat if you miss any, give them 10, 20, 30 minutes, they’ll be back. Good luck and have fun!

Get yourself an old radio and turn it to any station that has programing on 24/7, coons don"t like the sound of people. We"ve been doing it for 20+ years no problems.

My dog and I killed three the night before last - dog got one, I shot two - but the dog is getting old and can't hear as good as she used to, which describes me pretty well also. . .

They tore down a bunch of my wife's bird feeders last night, after me thinking I had trimmed the population pretty good the night before.

There used to be a lot of coon hunters, but I guess they've died off, or the price of hides is down or the price of dog food is up or all of the above. We need a year round season on them for a few years. They're thick around these parts.

Cats & dogs no problem. Corn half mi. from any house. Already tried radio. Fly bait, pepsi, myself, & mr. henry tonite. Update later.

We`re try`n mothballs(napthalene) & some dog hair the girls brushed off our border mix from a month `er so ago....I just heard the sob`s while feeding the cats....maybe time fer a latenite hunt!

Steel traps, bait with sardines, small traps, you want to catch him without breaking a bone, if your trap breaks the bone he will knaw his leg into and all you will have is a foot/ We use #2 victor traps single or double springs. Blake and Lamb makes a good small double spring jumping trap also.

Try Duke Dog proof coon traps, I got 2 coons, so far, and a possum, so far. Go to Youtube, and watch the videos, these traps are easy to set, won't break the coon's paw, and won't catch a dog. Your coon will wait patiently for you to dispatch him in the morning!

Forgot the link, and I used sardines, and marshmallows, as bait. Get sardines in oil, spread a trail of oil, about 3' off the ground, wind will bring the coons in.
