Neighbor claimes he has a jersey cow that lactated but never had a calf. I said that it was odd and he remarked that her mother also never had a calf.
 
U.S. Goverment did a 5 million study and found out that if your parents never had children it is very likey you won't either.
 
That's not really the kinda thing ya'd want blabbed around...
The cow had the calf, or dropped one... and he plain never found it...
I had a heifer here last winter that dropped a calf that I never found... but I know she dropped it.
Virgin heifers don't milk.

If the neighbor's lactating cow never had a calf and her mother never had a calf was the lactating cow cloned?????
 
Reminds of the govt study last month, took years to determine that "People who engage in risky behavior tend to behave in risky behavior more often then someone who does not"
 
yep,every farmer or cattle man in the country lost money every year also!,,,lets see, her mother never had a calf? LOL Been in this buisness a long time,theres lots of old cows that never had a calf (if you work it that way).But seriously,ive had cows skip a year,brother had one that never had a calf but every other year her whole life.but she didnt lactate,IF this is true shes probably aborting her calf I would think.
 
That reminds me of the ditty I learned in the 1960s.

If it takes a cow and a half a day and a half to have a calf and a half, how long does it take a grasshopper with a wooden leg to kick the seeds out of a dill pickle?
 
The mother never having a calf is obviously BS, but technically, you can get either a male or female bovine to lactate with oxytocin treatments, courtesy of University studies. Practical?....no.
 
Maybe iam just not getting somthing here. But if her mother NEVER had a calf then where did this cow come from?

Same goes for a post on here a couple weeks maybe a month a go about a cow only having bull calfs, and the poster said her mother was the same way, only having bull calfs, well apparently her mother had a heifer at some point in time to have her.

Maybe iam just getting to technical with the terms. lol
 
A cow can hide a calf like you can't believe.
They can blend into even the shortest of vegetation and stay hid.

I would also consider a predator. I've lost a calf to coyotes before.

Also consider the latest fad in rural crime and that is the neighbor kids snatching calves to finance their drugs and alcohol. A day old calf at the sale barn brings a couple hundred bucks.
