Sad day but kinda proud

Just spent some time with a young man that my wife and I have kinda adopted it seems. He is leaving Tuesday for Iraq and won't be home for sometime. My step-daughter used to date him and he just kinda kept coming around after that since he has no family. It seems he is patterning his career choices after mine. He joined the military and is now in the National Guard and he is also in law enforcement. Just had a great meal with ribeyes, taters, corn on the cob, salad and some strawberrys for dessert. I am really proud of this kid and I could tell he really didn"t want to leave when he did today. I am sure it is not like your own kid going to a combat zone, but I can appreciate it a little more after today.

Get his address and write to him often. Since he has no girl frined or family you will probably be the only lettes he gets. Even if he has a girl she will probably dump him like my girl friend did to me when I was in Japan. When I was in the Navy in the 60's no matter where I was My family wrote to me. Mostly letters from Dad. They were kind of always the same, but it was nice to hear from home. Stan

FUD...don't make the distinction/observation that he is NOT your own. From your posting, he certainly is claiming you in more ways than one. May the Divine Master be with him on this journey and his return home.

Give him all the support you can. When I was in the service (21 years active duty) I had a lot of troops in his condition. We always had them over for the holidays and tried to make them feel as they had family. Still keep in touch with some even after all these years.

Give him all the support you can. Remember the Blackberrys how are they doing here is picture os some I picked today. LOL has 26 Qts in Freezer. and these will get made into Freezer Jam. Then the rest will be given to friends.

Well fud. Looks like you have a new son. Get his address or phone number. Wtite and call as much as you can. Trust me it will do him a world of good. I have 22 years in the military. The saddest person I ever saw. Was the one that never got mail. In our shop we made a rule that the one that never got mail. Was the one that opened any package that anyone got. He was allowed first choice on the goodies inside. He never got mail, but he looked forward to the goodie boxes that came in every week.

I agree with the others treat that boy as a son. I have a son that has spent 16 years in the navy he spent his first tour in Japan on the independence I wrote him every week then later I finally got a computer and e-mailed him. I know he appreciated it, because its lonely when they are gone from family. I just spent last week with my son on a aircraft carrier the enterprize we took a two day cruise, it was a trip of a lifetime for my son and I.

I will get his address as soon as he is in country and put it on here. I agree, the saddest thing was seeing guys that never got any mail when I was in the military. I think we'll keep him (lol) his is a pretty good kid. The berrys are coming on Max but I was told I wouldn't get any production until the second year (you may be the one that told me that).

The same here. Our son is in the National Guard and also works full time for them. He likes his job, but would of got out if could of found a good job elsewhere. He just go married at 4:00 PM Saturday. Looked at his phone later on that evening and had a call from his commander that they were activated to go to Iraq. This will be his second trip over there. A he!! of a wedding present from his boss.

Fudpucker: Will have to see if your young man and my son are anywhere close over there. Probably will be a few months before son's unit leaves.
This leaves me to restore his tore down MD Farmall in my shop this winter

Oldest boy is heading back in 10 days. His company has already left. He got to stay behind bescause the DIL was just about ready to pop with kid #2 (4th grand baby). She had a boy.

I wouldn't post his addy here for everyone to see. I would opt to open up yer email and forward it if requested. That way you can make sure some nut isn't sending him unwanted mail.

That meal sounds delicious! now I am hungry. Sorry to hear about him going away. sounds like you were a great influence, and I wish him best of luck!
