There is only one place near my that takes scrap metal. They are offering me 250.00 a ton for prepaired metal. I don"t think that is too bad. They also deliver a bin, and pick it up at no cost. what are you guys getting for scrap. stan

I took a load of mixed steel/iron in 3 weeks ago and got $265/ton. I may have gotten a little more if I'd seperated it, but I'm 15 miles from the yard and I'm happy to get rid of it.... paying me to take it is a bonus.

Be careful what you sell for scrap. You will need that short length of channel the day after you sell it.

I worked for a guy who thought he was going to make a killing from metal stud scrap from the job we were doing. He had the guys bring all the short pieces--four-foot or less--to the shop and toss them in a pile. Once he had enough, he had a couple employees come and load them on a trailer. I think by the time he paid the labor to load, not to mention the money he lost by not having short pieces for bracing, etc. he made about $25.00. Gee, I wonder why he went out of business. "A penny wise and dollar foolish" comes to mind.

I just paid 15 bucks for a 4 foot length of 1/8x by 2 inch square tubing.I keep a good stash of steel, crooks could never find it.I have trouble finding it myself.I have a 5 gal pail of short pieces.always find some thing I need in the pail. While scrap is high the money you get dosent buy much.

There is good and bad to all this. A whole lot of junk is being cleaned up around the country like old appliances, junk cars, tire rims, and rusted stuff. But its sad to think useful equipment is going too.

Scrap is going for $280 prepared. Mixed is $250. Whole old car, tanks and tire included are $270???? I four weeks ago hauled a couple old cars in and they are draining the fluids and recycling them. The guy there said they got a tax credit for each car. I laughed they wanted the titles for the cars. One was not problem 1990 Olds 98 the other was different. 1948 Packard that had been in a neighbors fence row for the last fifty years. I don"t remember it ever being driven. They finally took it. I wish they asked those type of questions on farm equipment the get.

Dumbest thing I saw was a IH 450 Diesel there. Looked like it was dissent tractor just missing the cylinder head. Scrap guy said a Younger kid brought it in. Said his dad had been overhauling it and died. The kid wanted the garage to park his motorcycle in so he had brought the tractor in for scrap. Now the REAL dumb part it had NEW 15.5 38 rear tires, still had the rubber tabs on them. Scrap yard worker had taken a chop saw and cut them off the rims so they could sell the rims for scrap steel. I told the owner that they had cut up a $1000 worth of tires for twenty dollars of scrap steel. He did not believe me. I call the tire shop and had them give me tire prices over my cell phone, which I put on speaker phone. The yard owner turned kinda green. Told him if he gets any farm equipment I would be glad to look it over for him to tell him what it is worth. Weather to scrap it or sell it as equipment. He has called me twice and I have gone and looked. He has sold several loads to the local salvage tractor yard. Made myself a few hundred cash from the yard owner.

sold some batteries recently--was happy with the flat $10.00 ea. for small auto, diesel=twice,1 big ford 3000 bat even more, etc. overhead included driving 5 mi. to meet the guy, + a pair of coveralls after the leg rotted out-whoops]
