haybine question

I have a 1091 Hesston haybine with the two piece guards, bottom forged and the top stamped, I think they are called tie guards, they were on the machine when it was new and I have used them ever since. There getting very hard to find and very expensive. I know the one piece guards like on a New Holland will fit on but then will I have to add hold down clips?? and if so, how many? one over each guard? I can't seen to find that info anywhere. Thanks.

put the holddowns about every 4-5 gaurds.I have mixed/matched those gaurds for years.works just fine.

What year is yours? I've got a '67 110 SP. I've known 'em as stub guards, no problem getting them in the past. I haven't needed any for a couple years, would never go back to the others after being able to mow right thru down windrows.

The stub guards are similar but shorter, the aftermarket ones are made in china and just soft junk! Hesston wants $31.50 a set for them and there is 19 to a set. Maybe I'm getting too tight in my old age. I usually get four years out of a set and a new sickle and that last year it's just tearing it off. Tried just a new sickle but it doesen't cut good without replacing the guards also. Price has doubled in the past four years and the parts are almost unusable the quality is so poor.

hi i had a hesston 1110 year 1988 bought new. dam good machine ,i never had any problems getting replacement parts, never just went to the nearest hesston dealer. he either had them on stock or ordered them couple days wait at most. that haybine (mower conditioner) they called it was the best in my opinnoin ,you could as previous commentor stated mow across any windrow or start where ever you wanted to when mowing. you have a good machine just my .02 cts. good luck.
