This fall I would like to get this tractor running again. When I bought, it ran but old Holley carb was an issue then as well as now. How ever won't start at all now and gas leaks out of the air horn. Other than that has considerable blow by but when it ran it ran strong and solenoid is shot (I think).

Gonna replace the carb and solenoid and wiring (wiring pretty old).

Where would you start and what would you do to get this thing fired up?

Thanks,

Tyler

3 things needed -- compression,spark,fuel-- check compression see what you got , the make sure u got good spark at the plugs , then fuel

Lot's of folks have dumped the Holley for a new Zenith. They run about $300 and are available from this site. I'm still running the Holley on my 4400 but the only issue with mine is a stumble if you give it to much throttle before it warms up.

I made up a wiring harness for mine when I rewired it. It was pretty simple but if I had it to do over I would have just bought the harness. Most parts places list the diesel harness but I've heard some actually include the wires for the gas models also.

I converted mine to an alternator and electronic ignition also.

Lot's of experienced folks down the page on the Ford board

The diesel harness works fine for the gasser. Everything is identical between them except the gasser uses a 14 ga wire from the start switch to the coil whereas the diesel uses about a 10 ga wire from the start switch to the thermostart.
So use the thermostart wire to power the coil and you are good to go.
Thermostart wire has the big honkin size spade connector on each end. Clip them off and install regular size spade connector on start switch end. EZ
