it was said in the thread below about black snakes that thier teeth are like nylon bristles and that they kill copperhead snakes.personally i have only seen no more than 3 or 4 black snakes outside.i have always heard about them being a good rodent controller, and have always wondered if they are no bother to humans how do they kill thier victims.wouldn"t they have to poison or suffocate thier victims like other snakes do,and if one was under something and youy moved it wouldn"t it biet or strike out at you like other snakes will??

Most snakes either kill prey by constriction (suffocation) or swallow prey alive.

A black snake will bite if caught but would much rather flee from human interaction.

A Black snake is plenty strong to squeeze a mouse to death.

If you want to relocate one just pick it up by the tail, I've carried many of them away from the house and they never tried to bite. One of my daughters is afraid of them ("too slitherly"), another will walk over and pick it up for fun.

I have seen combat first hand of a black snake and a copper head. The black snake wraps it's self around the copper head and kills it that way then eats it whole. A black snake can give a person one nasty bite again I know that first hand since I catch them off and on and have been bitten more then once. I have also caught copper heads but much more careful doing that

to quote Indiana Jones "i hate snakes" glad i have cats and foxes [to take care of snakes, mice], roaming in my 1/2 foot ball field back yard.....oh, that reminds me, need to go mow grass/alfalfa/weeds before they can hide in it.......

As Old says, black snakes CAN bite and it may become infected.

I'm having a bad year with snakes. Doing the backswath with haybine today & saw the fattest blacksnake lost to the haybine. About a week ago, baled one. Day before, a very stinkin bale. Feel bad.

I never felt bad about baling a snake. Only really felt anything when one would slide out of a bale I was holding.
