Train Hits Deer

Got this emailed to me, not sure where it is. This was the caption that came with the email. Some comments in the "man killed in brush hog accident" thread made me think of this.

"Footnote: Although the paramedics discovered no one was injured when they arrived on the scene, they did have to caution people that got near the tractor motor laying on the ground as it was still running.

NOTHING RUNS LIKE A DEERE!"

"Takes a licking and keeps on ticking."

Shut it off, quick. Need to be able to say it "ran when parked" to get any serious money out of it.

Well I hadn't seen it before, maybe there are folks here who haven't either. And if everyone has seen it then I apologize..........And if it offends you then DON'T LOOK!

Climate controled sound deadening cab? Air up high? Tunes cranked to where Shania Twain's high notes sound just like a train whistle?.. and it's all the railroad's fault......

i ave a set of freight tracks that i have to cross when moving from one farm to the other. no warning lites at the crossing. the slow moving trains are easy to spot, but we get some really moving, and if you have problems with the rough crossing, you can get in a world of hurt real quick.

I think the location is northeast Arkansas, railroad tracks south of
Corning on the way to Walnut Ridge. This accident was a year or
two ago, if it's the same one I remember.
The farm land in the background looks familiar.

Several years ago, a good friend of mine, a retired doctor, was in an accident and rolled his Cadillac ElDorado wheel to wheel. It landed right side up.

He was properly belted in and unhurt, but when he tried to get out he found the doors jammed. The sunroof was broken out, so he started crawling out of the sunroof. About then, someone walked up and asked, "Don't you think you should shut the engine off?".

After rolling wheel to wheel, the car was sitting there with the engine still idling.

(quoted from post at 14:41:53 07/19/11) i ave a set of freight tracks that i have to cross when moving from one farm to the other. no warning lites at the crossing. the slow moving trains are easy to spot, but we get some really moving, and if you have problems with the rough crossing, you can get in a world of hurt real quick.

There is a railroad crossing near my house that I cross several times a week without any warning lights, and I have had a few close calls as they are not only rough but you have to go over a hump to cross. Add to that the tracks curve at both sides and the timber and crops being up prevent seeing more than a few feet, especially during summer months.

I will not forget the really close call I had, and I doubt the train engineer will either. Broad daylight in the middle of the afternoon I was moving pretty slow as I approached the crossing, and wasn't paying enough attention. Next thing I saw was a fast moving BNSF train a few feet away, headed right at me, and I was about to be on the tracks. I jammed the brakes hard and steered for the ditch, hoping to avoid a collision, but thought sure I was done. Thankfully I was going slow enough that I skidded to a stop maybe 5-7 feet from being on the tracks, almost completely sideways next to the RR crossing post, less than a second before the train went across. I was so close I saw the engineer jump to his feet, nose pressed against the top of the window glass, as I was so close to the train he couldn't see if I had got stopped. Eyes wide open and jaw dropped to the floor, I am sure he thought he was going to run over me. If I had been going even a few mph faster, or looked even a second later, I would not be here to tell this.

I am very cautious now crossing this track, and at night I even shut off my headlights to look for train lights, since some bright thinker decided to put up highly reflective "X" warning signs that reflect light back at the vehicle, causing a blinding condition similar to meeting a vehicle with their bright lights on. Got looked over a bit by a deputy sheriff on patrol a while back for turning off my lights for a second to check for a train. Doubt he had any idea what I was doing, and wasn't too interested as he continued on patrol without stopping me.

Train vs just about any vehicle, train wins. Or should I say other vehicle looses big time.

WOW!!! that is a nasty, hard to believe no one was hurt. Good thing for the train it wasnt a IHC. Thanx for sharing that I did not see that before, even if I did its interesting enough to see more than once.

Thats as close as it gets. Great pictures. Whats he have on the back, never seen anything like that around are parts? Looks like a cultivator with disks, but why the markers?

dammit guys , pay attention to why this happened ! , The doublwe track WILL GET YOU KILED , i know pix has been out there a few years , but no one has hit on the real cAuSe of the accident ???,, one train went thru exposing clear entry to cross the tracks , UPON CROSSING THE 1ST SET OF TRACKS AFTER TRAIN WENT THRU, THAT IS WHEN ANOTHER TRAIN CAME IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ,,, sHAVING OFF THE NOSE OF THE TRACTOR ,, and this will continue to kill people if you all are not careful on thee multiple tracks ...
