High horse power narrow front tractors

Tried to google this, but not happy with results I got. Does anyone know the highest HP tractor in a NF? What about diffent brands? JD, FORD, OLIVER,FARMALL,etc? Also, when was the last year it was offered? Thanks in advance. RON

I would opine that it was probably a Minneapolis Moline. The usually led the horsepower race in the '50's, and sold a lot of narrow front tractors.

I'm thinking the JD 4230 and IH 966 were available with factory narrow front versus something created in a farmer's shop.

little more info from the web:

The last John Deere tractor models to offer the tricycle front end, the small 4030 and 4230 models were powered by a 86 horsepower six-cylinder diesel engine. Production ran from 1973 to 1977.

I'll have to check to be sure but I think I remember seeing a narrow front in the factory repair manual for my 1086. It's possible the manual covered a couple of smaller models too and that's where the narrow front comes in. jim

It was common practice until the mid 70s to put the narrow front on when using a mounted corn picker. We did this with uncle Mike's 706 and would put the wide front on for all other use.

ive seen pictures of oliver 2255's and international 1466's but i dont know if they were factory. i know my cousins had an oliver 1855 (100hp) with a Narrow front with a corn picker mounted.

There were 5 john deere 4320's sold by our local dealer in western MD, each was narrow front and had a roll-guard and canopy. All but one has been changed to a wide front.A close friend own's the last one and will never change it.I have seen 4 JD 4230's and a sod farm had 10 or more 4030's narrow front.I have seen 190XT allis and 1130 MF's, 1950T oliver and 9000 and 8600 Fords. IH 1206,1256 and several 966's(one came new with fast hitch)

A White dealer close to me sold a 2-105 Gas Narrow front open station and a 2-135(I think) Narrow front with cab to the same guy. It was in the early 80s and dealer said they had to special order them both to get them. He said the 2-105 was the last one built as a gas tractor and the 2-135 was the one of the only ones with a narrow front built. I remember seeing them being delivered to the dealer ship. Sure looked funny sitting on the back of that trailer back to back. Bandit

I remember seeing a Ford 8000 at the Illinois State Fair about 1968.Google Ford 8000 and click images.I tried to paste but the site won't let me.

I know of two John Deere 4430 factory narrow front tractors. One is a four post canopy and the other is a factory flat top fender one. The one with flat top fenders only has 2000 and some hours on it. I have tried to buy it for years. These are both 1973 year models.

The MF 1130 was Neb.Test# 948 120.51 PTO hp

The JD 4430 was Neb.Test# 1110 125.88 PTO hp

The White 2-135 Neb. Test# 1275 137.64 PTO hp.

The IH 1466 was Neb test# 1125 145.77 PTO hp.

So if IH offered the IH1466 factory narrow front then it would be the winner so far. I have seen the JD 4430 and MF 1130 with narrow fronts. I have seen IH 1466 that I know where switched to narrow front. I have never seen a White 2-135 narrow front. I would like to see it. I bet that it look really odd on a cab tractor.

As Tomstractorsandtoys said, The Ford 9000 at 131 HP was offered up through 1973 with factory narrow front.

The 4040 was available as both a roll-o-matic, and a single front. So the 30 series wasn't the last.

IH offered the tricycle front bolster for all but the 1586 in the 86 series tractors. I do not know if that was for the entire production run or if it stopped being available when the production was changed to a metric front bolster.

I've never seen one, but it's my understanding that
the 86/9600's were also available with a narrow
front. That would bump your numbers to 135 h.p. and
1976. (I'd have to double check, but I also think
9000 production ended in '72.)

Where are you at in Western Maryland? My grandfather farmed with narrow front 4320's in the 70's in Washington County Maryland. I have a picture somewhere of 3 of them at the farm ready for a pull, all with narrow front and canopies. Grandad said 2 guys from the dealer came out to the barn and said Deere had a 4020 with a turbo now. My Great-Uncle said they had to have a narrow front. One of the dealer men said he thought the 43's were wide-front only, but the other said no they'll swap right out. I think Grandad said they went ahead and ordered 2 then. I'll have to ask him again.

There was also a brand new 4230 narrow front ordered by another of my Great-Uncle's in the 70's. But that one was driven down the road, pulled in the shop, and turned into a super-stock. I can't imagine, ha ha.

I am refering to the same tractors as you are. I even have a picture of my dad at a tractor pull with one of the 4320's your grandfather owned. We were neighbors till my dad died in a farm accident and I moved to Wisconsin.
