I still recall yearssssssssssss ago when I helped put up hay and worked n sweat all day North of Loogootee Indiana maybe for a bologna sandwich, I envied some "old fart" who sat on an old tricycle tractor with an umbrella and raked and that was all he had to do never even broke a sweat !!!!!!!!!!

Welllllllll nowadays IM THAT OLD FART that gets called to help rake butttttttttt it usually on a 50's up to 60's vintage two Cylinder Deere yes with an umbrella sittin there poppin away at fast idle in 4th gear and it dont get much better then that. My buddy called yesterday to ask me and insisted I had to use his John Deere D ON STEEL WITH LUGS knowing I hate a dern D the rough riding tough steering BEAST grrrrrrrrrrrr lol Actually it will prob be a power steering 50 or 520 or 620 with an umbrella SWEET

I have a standing agreement with his dad that I will ONLY rake ifffffffff its a nice smooth rectangular field (no dern V's or pies or circles to rake grrrrrrrrr) ,,,,,,,,the ends have already been raked up and baled so I have plenty room to turn on the ends,,,,,,,,,,second cutting so I can double windrow,,,,,,,,,,,tractor sittin there with rake already hooked up and adjusted in the row in gear and ready to step on starter, engage clutch n start driving WOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO

Nowwwwwwwww that sounds like a joke but actually thats usually the way conditions exist when I arrive at the field yayyyyyyyyyyy Im headed there at 11:00

Take care yall

I used to mow pasture on a D on steel and lugs with a JD #5 mower. Talk about rough riding, and no power steering.....and no umbrella.

Loved to rake hay. Usually cooler part of the day, not much noise; always used a small tractor that didn't work hard and the rake was practically silent. Only down side was the real work would soon follow.

Susan and I were rakeing this morning. She on her Super C(Chloe)pulling a IH#15 rake(Roxie),me on the SuperH pulling a IH #35 rake(I'm sorry,we dont have these named-yet!)Yup,thats about as good as it gets!!

I have a 5bar rake that attaches to 3pt hitch. Makes odd shaped fields & double raking a breeze... Now if I could get that umbrella...
