Last Saturday disking (not in the rain)

Last Saturday I posted a question if I should disk wet ground, recieved a resounding NO. Turns out they did not get much up on the hunting land, so we went ahead and did it anyway- seemed about perfect, just moist enough to keep dust down. Anyhow, here's a couple pics of disking the deer plot. This is likely the first time this field has seen a tractor. My uncle bought the land when he was 15 years old, supposedly it had been abandoned sometime arround 1920. When he bought it, the house in the background was in perfect shape - curtains still hung, windows good, it even had an old phonograph player that worked. Sometime later some hunters found it and shot holes in the roof and nature has taken its toll, but its still a neat piece of history to me. Hope you enjoy, Dan

Thats the trouble with idiots & guns . Thats also why farmers don t like to let people hunt on their land.
To bad they weren t caught & made to pay for repairs. City weeked end hunerts Idiots probably thought that the game would live inside of the house.

Wow your 'food plot' looks bigger that lots of truck farms. Lucky deer, they will eat better than some cows. Lucky house to even stand this long, no one in the family ever wanted it for a weekend place? A few days ago people were lined up to explain why city slickers weren't allowed on their land, this is why I don't allow hunters that aren't handed picked family or freinds on mine. Looks like you got your harrowing all fgured out, I like the weight 'baskets?'

I had that same disc (I think its an IH) about 40 years ago, doing my first tillage job on a 10 acre field on our first farm. Pulled it with a McCormick W4. Had various pieces of scrap iron chained on for weight. Pretty rough going at first, because I hadn't done that great a job of plowing. But I was pretty proud of the job when I finally finished. 'Course, I kept at it for quite awhile after it was actually "done", because it was so much fun going fast on the now-smooth field. Kind of like a toothache- it feels so much better when it quits hurting.

Probably got more satisfaction out of that field than many more using better equipment over the years. Thanks for the pics.

That is exactly the same outfit that I first disked with! M and an IH disk! ours had a hydralic cylinder by could be used without. They werent much for taking down the road though. I still have the old disk for a rock garden center piece.

Looks like it disced up quite nicely. Is the soil sandy? What is the approximate location? I know land in Northern MN can be quite sandy. It's usually a good indication that if the trees are mostly evergreens, then the land under them is quite sandy.
