farming spring work pics

Here are some pics of our spring work here in northern Idaho during May, it was a cold wet spring and most people here did not finish their seeding due to all the rain. We run the three steel track cats for most work, 1960 D6B, 1973 D4D, and 1974 D6C all sold for agricultural use not as dozers. As you can see the wheels had problems in mud, never did get a cat stuck though.

Winter wheat is the main crop here with spring wheat, barley, and dry peas, lentils, garbs grown in rotation.

Any questions just ask.

How long do those rails and sprockets last on those cats?Do they steer just like the industrial ones? I guess i should ask what makes a ag cat different than a ind cat? I haven't seen two together to tell. Thanks steve

Thanks for sharing your pics NIF. I bookmarked your last picture post and this one too. It's a beautiful operation you have there.

Great pictures, I think a lot of people have been fighting the mud this spring and summer, others can't seem to drop. The land of extremes.

I think the idlers are smaller, for easier turning, and direct drive - oil clutch transmissions, are the main difference, in addition to cab, air intake, exhaust extensions, hydraulic pump on the back.

Bob- Cat did not start doing their own cabs until 1976 so all ours have aftermarket ones, two are fiberglass one is steel. A few different outfits made them. AC is add on as well.

Pic is of a factory cab on a D5B late 70's model.

All ag cats are direct drive.

Rails and sprockets go over 10,000 hours in our soil type which is not very abrasive. They steer the same. Ag cats generally are modified to get way more HP. Direct drive tranny, wet decks, taller stacks, often wider pads.
