Help! How to operate a IH Farmall

Hi..Hoping someone can help me. My father just passed away and he had an IH Farmall. Sadly, it was just something that he showed me how to use in the past but now I can't remember all the details.

I was hoping someone could help me with how to operate the front loader. I can turn the tractor on, put it in gear, etc but when I move the three levers for the bucket to the left of the steering wheel nothing happens. I seem to remember I had to engage something but can't remember what.

Any help would be appreciated. If you can help please feel free to e-mail me at [email protected] or call me at 303.829.0143.

Thanks,

Tom

Gonna depend on the loader, and how the hyd are set up - many 'homemade' setups that are all one different from the other.....

Need the pto on???

Need the belt pulley on?

Three levers on the right side would be a newer distributor driven, 'live' hyd unit, wouldn't need nything else on. The standard H hyd need the clutch to be out (not pushed in) to work - not live.

BETTER TELL US WHAT MAKE / MODEL TRACTOR & LOADER IT IS!!!

I dont know a thing about front loaders; but I do know its tough to help when you dont even know what were are dealing with!

Sounds to me like maybe it needs the pto to be engaged to run a pto pump or it is out of fluid maybe. Probably a simple fix any way

since you are so new to the tractor, find out the model(there is a tag on the left clutch housing)and the serial no.
There should be adecal or chrome emblem on the side of the hood.order a owners manual-asap!you will need to know the basic info needed to operate and maintain your tractor.this site can get them,BinderBooks;or your nearest IH dealer cansupply that need.

what part of town/city are you in? i'm in denver. free during the week. might be able to help. it's 11pm. will call you in am if not posted.

(quoted from post at 04:14:10 07/11/11) Your best bet is to figure out how to get that pos on a trailer and haul it to the junk yard.

What type of response is this supposed to be?

:p :p :p Well it sure wasn't very nice.

SIR! Step away from the tractor.
Do not attemp to operate it till you have someone that that knows what they are doing.
You could hurt yourself or someone else!
I am not being mean to you, but don't want you to hurt yourself!

(quoted from post at 04:44:31 07/11/11) Have you tried engaging the PTO and/or letting out on the clutch?

Maybe it's got a PTO pump installed.

Judging by his question, he doesn't even know what a PTO *IS*, let alone how to engage it.

He's best off taking one of the local guys up on their offer to come and SHOW him how to operate the tractor.

One of two things is going on:

1. The tractor has a highly customized hydraulic system.
2. The tractor's hydraulic system is broken.

Either way it's not something we can resolve via text messages on this forum. He needs someone to physically come look at the tractor and show him how to operate it.

Hi - I just wanted to thank everyone for their help and willingness to respond to my question (even though I left off about 99% of the required information!), and, yes, I have stepped away from the tractor! (for now) Ha! That was my favorite by far!

A special thanks to Steve, Paul and especially Bob for reaching out to me directly.

Thanks again,

Tom
