Leaking again!!!!

Hey folks,
was all happy that my leaks were all fixed. Wife was quiet because no spots in the driveway.........
rear main is leaking again. Not bad but a nuisance. The kid that replaced the rear main said that because the seals were graphite rings and not rubber that getting one to stop leaking is like playing the lottery. Said there is play in the crankshaft and when the motor is worked real hard (running the baler) that there would be leaks that may or may not go away after it rests awhile. Local tractor/equipment repair shop confirmed it and said the only thing that may fix the problem is turning the crank and replacing all bearings but the engines are prone to the rear main leak.
Sound right? It's not leaking bad and runs real good. Think I can buy a bunch of oil for the cost of the repairs.
Think there is a chance of getting a new graphite seal and matching it with a rubber ring from something else?
Thinking to just clean everything up and hang a pan under it that I can wipe out now and then. That'll keep the treehuggers happy and it'll take a long time to go thru 10 bucks worth of oil.

Tips are appreciated.

Dave

the pan idea sounds good. I dont like oil leaks myself but sometimes you just have to live with them. If it gets worse then maybe fix it. Until then consider it dust control

Been putting cardboard under it at home but it only takes a treehugger to see drops on the ground when I'm usung it away from home. Since I put the front loader frame on, I have something to fasten straps (bands) to suspend a pan under it permanent.

just remember if you are collecting the oil on your tractor like that, It only takes a spark to make the tractor go poof

Had a friend with an old car that had a rear main leak. He took an old sweat sock and filled it with sawdust, and hung it with "mechanic's wire" below the leak. Whenever it started dripping on the floor again, he knew it was time to "change his socks," and he always had a fire starter ready for the wood stove in his garage.

Bin down that road recently and after $2000 it don' leak no mo'. One thing led to another and finally went for the total rebuild, even the head.

Hello dave2,
Most leaks are from the shaft side or lip area of the sealing surgace.
There is a product called speedi sleeve. It is a thin metal ring that comes with a metal cup installer. The ring has a lip on one side and the cup drives it in. The seal is very thin, and the regular seal, will have a new surface to seal. I have used this product many times.
On a rear main or any other shaft, they work great. Getting to the shaft, in your case, would mean splitting the thing again!
Here is the link for the product, it should launches for you.

yep , many a combine, tractor and tree harvesting equipment has been burnt to the ground just from having chaff, leaves or sawdust saoked in oil from leaks. such as when a brg goes and produces sparks. but your H i dont think is such a hazard.
