Furrower Size for Potato Trencher

I'm thinking about making a potato trencher using a couple of furrower shoes. I have a TO 30 tractor; the shoes come in six, eight, 10 and 12 inch models. I'm thinking a six-inch would work fine. Any thoughts?

I use to use a moldboard plow for plowing out the potatoes, but it covered a lot of them and you had to go back and scratch them out.

You probably need one made like in this old picture No3 that would probably roll out the potatoes on the surface. I wish now I had a potato digger when I raised a lot of potatoes. Hal

my friend gave me this one ,he called it a middle buster,I dug the nieghbors potatoes with it last year
I dont know what size it is ,but it worked pretty good,I think he got it at tractor supply

Thanks for the input, but I'm thinking just to make the trench to plant them. I dig them with my hands.

If you got a collection of shoes, just try 'em all. depends how deep you go, how dry or crumbly the dirt is, and you might want to change them as conditions change froom year to year. Don't pick one size and thro the rest out! I have an old Hoover of Maine potato digger, maybe I'll get it going by this fall, behind one of my fergies. The plows in the pics El toro posted were money savers, trencher, hiller, and digger, all in one. Just depended how you aimed the horse. I've got one made in NY state by the Quebec border in a city that is now a ghost town, they made plows from the 1850's into the 1870's. So I don't play with it... maybe start it up again, we'll see/

mine sorta looks like a shovel 6 1/2 W X 9 1/2 L,,, I don't think I would want it any smaller.... I hill then trench and cover up with the tractor... Only hand work is set'n the tatters 8)
